Woman Who Lost Half Her Body Weight (145 Pounds!) Gets a Makeover + a BIG Surprise
I’m Ashley, I’m from Washburn, North Dakota and I have lost half my body weight. (somber music) I was overweight as young as three and four years old. I don’t really remember how it started but I can always remember that I would turn to food for everything whether it be because I was happy or sad or bored, food was my best friend, my comfort. My highest weight was 288 pounds. My turning point was when I was 19 years old, my grandma brought some pictures that she’d developed, that was like the first time that I stepped outside of my body and actually saw what I looked like and I knew that something had to change. If I was gonna continue on the path that I was on, I wouldn’t likely live to see my 30th birthday. The first step that I took was to enroll in a weight loss program. After my first week I lost 11.8 pounds, at that moment I was just like, wow, I can do this. I continued on and I learned about portion control and really just how to make it a realistic lifestyle. As time went on I started to add in fitness and I have now lost almost 145 pounds. These days I maintain my weight loss by staying active with my kids. I do fitness workouts at home and I try to eat mostly natural whole foods. My style, I dress very tomboy, country. I usually wear jeans, yoga pants, hoodies, no dresses. I always told myself once I got to my goal weight that I was going to give myself a whole makeover. I still catch myself grabbing things off the rack that are a few sizes bigger than I actually am. I guess I would like to see myself in something a little bit more classy and not just so tomboyish. I’m not really flashy but, you know, classy with some cool accessories would be fun. (crowd applauding) She is amazing. (Gretta laughing) Gretta said the biggest thing she told her about was just stopping the processed foods. Absolutely, I said to Ashley, I’m teaching you today but I want you to teach me something, I wanna know how you did this and she said, “Honestly, I signed up for a program–
A program. For one month and then once I got the gist, I felt as though I could actually do it myself and she did that.
So she wrote her own program but the biggest thing to learn is eat clean. Absolutely. So then you guys went out on a shopping spree. Yes. The biggest part about, we’ve talked about this so many times, but when people make that dramatic a change, Yes It’s hard for them to get used to being that new person. You said it, I mean she had a whole lifetime of getting used to and making an impression of her body size and shape, her whole entire life she knew nothing else, Right. And then suddenly, it didn’t happen suddenly but even in the time it happened, it’s a dramatically different body to work with, she’s not familiar with it, she was totally overwhelmed going into stores and just unfamiliar, right? You go to a different department in the store, you can feel completely overwhelmed, nevermind trying back in–
She doesn’t even know, she probably doesn’t even know what size she is! Well I gotta tell you, that previous in her life before she could never actually buy things even in plus size stores, she had to do special sizing online,
Wow! That wasn’t even available! You bring her out!
-[Greta] Alright! Is she ready? Ashley are you ready?
