Now, the first thing

is a picture of your body.

So the first thing to understand
is that your body stores energy
from carbohydrates in the
muscle and liver tissue.
So this is your storage tank,
or your muscle and your liver
tissue.
Now, inside here, you’re
going to see bones, tissues,
and all of the organs
that produce hormones.
And research shows in
the journal Obesity
that people over 40 who
focus solely on hormones
lose 65% more weight
than those who
focus on keeping their
body in a calorie deficit
by using things
like the keto diet.
So over here, you’re going to
see where your body stores fat.
This is stored fat.
So what ends up happening
is in an everyday diet,
we typically will consume carbs
consistently on a daily basis.
And what happens is every
time we consume carbs,
our body instantly
uses them as energy
or instantly stores
them as energy.
So if you are walking down
the road or you’re exercising,
you’re going to start using
this stored energy as fuel.
However, if you sit down and
you eat a big carb-heavy meal,
your body is going to start
storing it in your muscle
and liver tissue.
Now, as you keep eating
these daily meals,
if you’re not moving
or exercising enough,
this glycogen
eventually fills up.
So your tank fills right up.
Now, every time you
consume a carbohydrate,
it spills over here
and gets stored as fat.
Now, here’s where things
like the keto diet come in.
So the whole premises
to the keto diet
is you’re eliminating all this
because you’re cutting out
carbs.
You’re only eating 5% carbs.
You’re eating 75% friendly
fats, 20% protein.
So you’re completely
eliminating glucose
from your plan, which
can kill your hormones.
And I’ll share more about
that in just a second.
So the whole idea here is
to bring the storage tank
down here by eliminating all
carbohydrates on a keto diet.
Then your body has no choice.
So instead of burning
what’s in here for energy,
because there’s nothing
there, it’ll come over here.
And it’ll start
burning fat for energy.
So it’s an amazing
weight loss plan.
However, science
and research studies
show that after one week of
following a plan like this,
several negative
consequences can happen.
The first thing
that’s going to happen
is you’re going to decrease
your thyroid hormones.
Your thyroid’s the master
gland in the metabolism.
It controls your body weight.
And it regulates the speed
of your metabolic rate.
And so after one week of
no glucose in your diet,
you suppress thyroid
levels because glucose
is the building block of TSAs,
Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone.
Research also shows that leptin
levels can plummet by up to 50%
after just one week of
