What to Expect Your First Week on Keto for Weight Loss

hi today we’re going to talk about why
the ketogenic diet gives you those
instant wins that work so quickly for
weight loss just like we talked about in
my interview with my sister-in-law Lori
which I’ll link to down below she saw
like in the first ten days of being on
keto about 15 pounds come off and this
is like one or two clothing sizes which
can just give you that quick win that
you need to keep going it’s already
talked about why that happens and yes it
is water weight but let’s talk about why
that’s not a bad thing okay so first of
all there’s water weight coming out
because when you lose the glycogen in
your muscles because your body is
important burning fat now it’s not
burning sugar anymore so you’re gonna
use up all that glycogen in your muscles
and in your liver so that’s gonna
account for a couple pounds when that
glycogen comes out it pulls some water
with you which is why electrolytes are
so important and I will link down below
to a video on electrolytes because
they’re so important but anyways you’re
losing that and that can account for the
first like five or so pounds so that’s
the first way you get that quick win on
the ketogenic diet which is just water
weight and yes that will be fill right
back up but it’s only like five pounds
or so once you go off the ketogenic diet
and start eating carbs again the second
way is that a lot of inflammatory foods
which is foods that your body’s like low
key not happy with are eliminated on a
ketogenic diet so while you can
technically have wheat gluten because
it’s a protein and not a carb
most of the keto foods that you’re gonna
eat are going to not have gluten in them
grains just in general are pretty
inflammatory your body uses a lot of
water to digest them which is going to
show up as water in your gut and so this
is when you’re not having to use this
much water to digest your grains if
you’re not having an inflammatory
response which is just kind of like all
over your bodies a little bit puffy
that’s gonna be another few pounds of
water and especially when we’re losing
the water weight in our gut and the
general puffiness that can account for a
whole or half clothing size and that’s
not a bad thing like we all know that
low-grade inflammation this is something
that’s been sourced and blend plenty of
medical journals is not good for our
body it puts too much stress on
ourselves it puts too much
you’ve been on our cartilage like our
joint there’s just lots of stuff that
low-grade inflammation isn’t good for
and just kind of as a secondary
characteristic the ketogenic diet
happens to be high in omega-3s which
lowers your inflammation and it happens
to be low in inflammatory foods that
people just have especially in our
culture that we’ve used lots of
antibiotics CDs lots of pharmaceuticals
and all of that stuff
where in traditional cultures that have
super healthy bodies and super healthy
digestive systems that might not produce
an inflammatory response but in this
current culture and our modern culture
in our bodies that maybe aren’t as
healthy as they could be a lot of times
this does produce an inflammatory
response then the third reason why you
get quick success on the ketogenic diet
is because you’re just not in the habit
it’s a change of habits so you’re not in
the habit of being able to grab toast
you’re not in the habit of being able to
grab a mocha and so this is just like
hundreds of calories that you’re
probably not going to be eating until
you’ve gotten more in the habit of
grabbing your ketogenic food and so this
is something where it’s kind of like
even if you’re not counting calories but
you switch over to eating a certain
amount of carbs a day you’re only very
low carb food excuse me even if you’re
not counting calories but you switch
over to eating so-called ketogenic food
or low carb food a day and you’re not
eating any of the bread you’re not
eating any of the sugars you’re just
eating a whole like vegetables eggs
meats cheeses that kind of thing then
pretty much by default you’re not going
to be grabbing all that convenience food
that was just all those empty calories
and so that’s another way that you can
get a quick win my pain on the ketogenic
diet it’s just like a quick shock to
your system get out of that bad junk
food habit and into eating healthy whole
foods that are full of protein healthy
fats and vitamins and minerals from the
vegetables for sure
another way that the kids eunuch diet
helps give you those quick wins is that
because it does address mental health
issues this is something that’s kind of
just starting to be studied but
qnet diet addresses anxiety depression
and other like binge eating disorders a
lot of the neurological stuff which
there’s no disputing that ketogenic diet
works for neurological stuff it’s been
used for well over 100 years for seizure
control but they’re just now looking to
all the other aspects that it can’t help
and a lot of people find that once they
switch to the ketogenic diet there are
like low-grade anxiety low-grade
depression low-grade like wanting to
binge eat is something that just
completely goes away as long as they eat
like this and this is cause your brains
for any non ketones and not glucose are
not completely sure of why this works
but it is a correlation that people on
the ketogenic diet generally are a
little bit happier a little bit less
anxiety a little bit less of all of
these mental health problems this is
something that I’m excited to see more
research come but when we get our
anxiety controlled but once we get that
anxiety control up for example I’m not
sure how many of you are stress eaters
but I know I definitely can be or stress
drinkers where we’re using alcohol
inappropriately those are if you’re
having a pint of Ben and Jerry’s or
you’re having a couple glasses of wine
because of stress every night getting
rid of that stress or lowering that
stress is a side effect of the ketogenic
diet that people are doing for weight
loss so can really address the stress
eating habits that you had same thing
with depression if you’re like eating to
boost your mood then if you get rid of
some of those depression symptoms and
you have more energy because the
ketogenic diet is also a sodium
associated with higher energy you might
be wanting to go out and take a walk or
go exercise instead so it just kinda can
snowball all of these healthy habits and
then the energy is the last reason why
people will see these quick wins on the
ketogenic diet other things when we just
calorie restrict we have less energy
because we’re kind of fighting our
cravings we’re fighting eat wanting to
eat more we’re fighting being hungry
keto is a natural appetite suppressant
which we’ll talk about in another video
but when we start the ketogenic diet a
lot of times our energy will go up
because once we switched over into
fat-burning mode we have plenty most of
us that we can burn from and so our body
has this constant supply of energy and
so you might find yourself instead of
wanting to sit on the couch and eat junk
food at night maybe you’re excited to go
try a new team sport or you’re excited
to go out and go take a walk after
dinner and so that’s another way that
you the ketogenic diet can give you a
quick win for weight loss I hope that
