Hi, I am Jyothi Chabria. In this video we
will be discussing about diet in pregnancy.
The ideal diet in pregnancy actually is a
lot of iron, calcium and minerals. The ideal
weight gain in all of 9 months should be 12
kilos. What we recommend for all patients
is to take an iron rich diet which would include
things like dates, figs, honey, jaggery, green
leafy vegetables, millets like finger millet’s,
fox millet, lot of folic acid, lot of foods
rich in iron and calcium. Ideally in pregnancy
we would recommend about 3 glasses of milk
which is almost half a liter, apart from buttermilk
or tofu and things like that. Today you have
even soya milk options which lot of patients
chose to take. There are some patients who
complain of lactose intolerance in pregnancy
also, so we recommend soya milk and soya products
for them. And the iron requirement, normally
the iron requirement is 11-13 grams is what
a patient should have , but most people in
pregnancy because the features is been bascially
formed from blood so we tend to see a lot
anemia’s are picked up in pregnancy. But,
these can definitely be corrected with nutritional
food supplements as well as food per se. And,
ideally in the gestational weeks of 40 weeks,
we see patients normally in the second trimester
that is the third to sixth month, where the
demand for calcium and D3 goes up because
of the bones for the babies, so, we recommend things like drum stick, foods rich in calcium
basically, things like sesame seeds, which
are rich in calcium and fox tail millet which
is rich in calcium and other green leafy vegetables which are rich in calcium for them.
