THE TRUTH BEHIND FOOD CALORIE LABELS October 25, 2019 100 By William Morgan truth behind food calorie labels truth behind food calorie labels CategoryArticlesTagsbehind calorie calories diet food labels nutrition science Truth 100 Comments Natacha Océane says: October 2, 2018 at 5:41 pm Hey my friends!! Food nutrition labelling is more complicated than I realised at first but I think in the end it all comes down to a balanced diet, being aware and not trying to always force smaller servings or a ‘lower calorie/fat/sugar/carb/etc.’ alternative. Hope you enjoy!! Lots of love xxx Reply Japan's Facemask says: October 2, 2018 at 11:21 pm This reminds me of a time I bought granola bars and the nutrition label on the individually wrapped bars was different from the one on the box (off by 10 calories if I remember right). I felt so betrayed, but it was only 10 calories lol Reply Tori Gross says: October 2, 2018 at 11:28 pm That's my 2.7 cents lol omg how are they going to measure something by seconds 🤦♀️ Reply David Morrow says: October 2, 2018 at 11:36 pm thank you for your videos they make me smile so MUCH Reply Dongting Zhao says: October 3, 2018 at 12:26 am A tip for you, please don’t add txts on top of what you are talking. I either won’t have time to read the txt or listen to you. Reply Janet Lee says: October 3, 2018 at 12:26 am I'm so happy you posted this!! I've been struggling mentally bc I really enjoy cereal but I have to eat 2-3 servings to feel satisfied so knowing it's okay to do so is a huge relief 🙂 Reply Nuha Chowdhury says: October 3, 2018 at 12:53 am I recently realised that a lot of lower prices ice creams are similar calories to the expensive 'low calorie' ice creams. Walls mint choc chip is 86kcals per 100ml and oppo is 85kcals per 100ml! Walls is £1.99 for a 2L tub and oppo is £4 for a 500ml tub……marketing is a load of bs. They're charging more for the same product with a better label Reply Megumi Yamamoto says: October 3, 2018 at 12:56 am So fun and informative!! Thank you 💕 Reply Camelia T says: October 3, 2018 at 1:29 am Can you please do a video on binge eating? Please, it is something I am really trying to control but I don't know how. Reply AlliAsAlways says: October 3, 2018 at 1:36 am "That's my 2.7 cents." You're so clever, girlie. xD Also, WHERE. DID. YOU. GET. THOSE. STRIPED. SHORTS?! I'm in love with them!! Reply krishna veni says: October 3, 2018 at 2:27 am Hey Natacha, I have lost 14kgs so far but my hair is kind of getting weak. I have lost so much hair during this course. Can you help me what should I do about that please ( sorry for my English it's not our first language so..😅) Reply LaTripper says: October 3, 2018 at 2:45 am I LOVE those cookies (especially that flavor). I'm glad they made the smaller size. Reply LaTripper says: October 3, 2018 at 2:53 am One reason I gained so much weight before is bc I never looked at the labels. I understood family or party sized stuff wasnt for an individual but those small bags of cheetos are 3.5 serving sizes! Along with so many other things Reply kaysia younes says: October 3, 2018 at 2:57 am i love you & all of the effort you put into these videos. thank you thank you thank you girl! Reply Patricia Sarkkinen says: October 3, 2018 at 3:45 am IM SO HYPED FOR THIS Reply Liger Lam says: October 3, 2018 at 5:32 am i cracked up when you said "that's just my 2.7 cents" LOOL Reply Mona Li says: October 3, 2018 at 5:40 am I feel you Natacha! Thankyou so much xx Reply Hrefna Vignisdottir says: October 3, 2018 at 6:20 am this is so stupid, why should they be allowed to adjust up or down or let certain things be to deduction! They should only be allowed to put precisely what is in the food. Reply Cameron Rodrigo says: October 3, 2018 at 6:26 am Are we not going to factor type of calories that influence insulin levels? Reply pc says: October 3, 2018 at 6:30 am any advice for losing stubborn weight? im walking at least 5k steps a day (i know its not much but i used to walk very little) i dont have much time to work out after classes so i only workout when i have the time. i actually lost a bit of weight! i lost 1kg but im stuck at 60kg. my thighs are really thick but its somewhat genetic? my whole family is only fat in our legs. my diet is not the most balanced, but im not overeating, i cut down on sugary foods and only eat what keeps me satisfied, not full. Reply Lucy Dunlop says: October 3, 2018 at 7:59 am 4:11 oath Reply Charlotte Martin says: October 3, 2018 at 8:06 am I do sport science at university and I would a career within Sport nutrition and your videos give me so much inspiration and motivation to go down that route! Which website do you use for research journals and information? and have you got any advice that will help me down this career path? 😊 Reply Vicky Leonetti says: October 3, 2018 at 9:57 am I feel like this topic is SO IMPORTANT! So often I run into yogurts, jellies and stuff that claim to be high in protein, only to then find out that they have just 5 grams per 100. Or if you are restricting a bit your carbs intake and you see a bar that says "high protein low fat" then you think "oh this is great" and bam! it turns out it has 12 grams of protein and 40 of carbs. It is so important to read labels, ingredients, and understand well what you are buying. And of course, the more natural and less processed, the better! 😉 Thanks Natacha like always!!! <3 Reply M. P. says: October 3, 2018 at 10:00 am Very informative. Loved it! Reply Georgia Brennan-Scott says: October 3, 2018 at 10:29 am Another good reason to focus on eating whole foods and cooking your own meals 🙌🏼 Reply Eléonore Vatin says: October 3, 2018 at 11:29 am Great video as usual ! It is really informative and also enjoyable to watch so great job 🙂 just a question : where do you find your background musics and noises ? thanks in advance 🙂 Reply Somer Drummond says: October 3, 2018 at 11:31 am You are so lovely! I love how you back these sorts of videos with science and research, and come at these topics from a thoughtful and kind perspective. I wish I could have watched videos like this back when I was a teenager really struggling with diet and weight loss, but glad I have them now because I always find your perspective so interesting and inspiring. Keep it up! Reply Anna Montgomery says: October 3, 2018 at 11:34 am Love your videos Natacha and I love how you put the science behind it! 🙂 Keep it up! 🙂 Reply Amy G says: October 3, 2018 at 11:43 am Since I started powerlifting I’ve also been weighing my food, and I’ve noticed that the serving size in weight is NOT the same as the serving size in size. The pancakes I eat, for example, give a serving size of 1/2 cup or 32 grams. But when I weigh out 32 grams and it’s nowhere near 1/2 a cup. So which serving size do I believe? I know baking is more accurate with weight buuuuuut is that true with serving size? Reply Tania Medeiros says: October 3, 2018 at 11:44 am This is so good 🙂 I used to eat 6 to 7 times a day in small portions and I was always hungry cos a nutrion doctor told me that I should eat around 1200 to 1300 calories. This just maked me always trying to find a small snack that will just increase my hunger and in the end of the day It was not possible to maintain an healthy body. Now I do not count calories and just eat intuitively whatever I want. I should be consuming more than 2000 calories per day and I am pretty smal 160cm. Thank you so much Reply Of The Light *** says: October 3, 2018 at 12:17 pm Banana creme Okios Zero is my favorite Lol…love the video tho! Reply Betina Käfer says: October 3, 2018 at 2:10 pm You're so helpful!!! 😊 THANK YOU SO MUCH! ❤️ Reply Nadine Alkharrat says: October 3, 2018 at 2:16 pm I love you so much.. ;( Reply Eve Luci says: October 3, 2018 at 2:27 pm I'm surprised there are people who aren't aware of this, but guess my slight disordered eating has contributed to my knowledge and research of the topic. Well presented video though:)xx Reply aline rutishauser says: October 3, 2018 at 3:15 pm greeeat content! So important, thank you for telling! Reply Kirsten Knick says: October 3, 2018 at 3:28 pm I love you so much! Thank you for your truth. Your experience strength and hope. You are a GEM 💎 Reply Cassie Autumn says: October 3, 2018 at 4:28 pm THIS is very important! Rounding is a major component when it comes to labeling—non fat might not mean truly “non fat”, sugar free on a label isn’t entirely “sugar free”, and so forth. Net carbs are such a controversial topic too—are they legit or not?As for serving sizes, some are veryyyyyyy catered towards maintaining as low of a calorie count as possible. Two Oreos, 3/4th’s of a cup of cereal, eleven chips, and a tablespoon of peanut butter are all serving sizes?! Yeahhhhhhh no thanks 😂 Reply sarajinki says: October 3, 2018 at 4:44 pm Omg the first time I have to disagree with you on something : chocolate chip mint is one of the best flavors hahaha Thank your for all the information! It was great! Reply Paveena Callozzo says: October 3, 2018 at 4:48 pm I love this! Keep doing what you do, for real <3 One thing though… the sidebars at the bottom of the screens made some really really good points, I found myself closely making sure I didn't miss any texts, pausing the video, and taking a second to grasp it. It would be helpful to instead present this text in a bigger more prominent way or something as a pause within a clip. Just my thoughts! 🙂 Reply Megan Curlew says: October 3, 2018 at 5:30 pm What's wrong with chocolate and mint? lol That is my favourite! <3 Reply Mary Caroline says: October 3, 2018 at 6:06 pm how to get arms like yours ughhhh i waaanttt😍😍 Reply Evie Calver says: October 3, 2018 at 6:09 pm Thank you for this video! I've been really confused by serving sizes lately since I'm using an app to track my calories and because my food isn't made by me I just have no idea what type of servings I'm eating! This made me think more about it 🙂 Reply Sophie Morrison says: October 3, 2018 at 6:26 pm Fab video, great information Reply Maria Gabriela says: October 3, 2018 at 7:52 pm okay I love you. Reply namjooncansteponmeandiwouldthankhim says: October 3, 2018 at 8:15 pm Nutter butter minis are like 10 for 140kcal. They think I'm counting? Lol! Reply sirenuty says: October 4, 2018 at 1:21 am Love how all your videos are so informational ! Reply Zoe Norbury says: October 4, 2018 at 1:25 am I love your science-based videos!! Reply Lowrie Becs says: October 4, 2018 at 2:46 am Great video! 🙌🏽 Reply Syrollesse says: October 4, 2018 at 7:14 am When I count calories I always round up to the highest hundred so if the label says 240 calories I round it up to 300 just in case. Idk if I'm just scared of having extra calories or what Reply claudia williams says: October 4, 2018 at 9:18 am would you consider doing a week of eating vegan focusing on building muscle/weight gain? or just consuming adequate calories Reply Summer Langereis says: October 4, 2018 at 9:57 am I'm so happy they just stick to ''per 100g'' here (and sometimes ''per piece'' ''per bar'' etc) Reply TaylorSwiftGleek says: October 4, 2018 at 12:26 pm Your videos are always so amazing. I love how you always have really unique filming locations 🙂 Reply Pau Pau says: October 4, 2018 at 12:31 pm Hey hey:) really interesting video! My question would be, if the nutrition factors for whole foods (not processed) are accurate, especially for fruits, vegetables, grains and nuts?:) can I relay on them or are they also a bit off? Xx Reply Kim szeredi says: October 4, 2018 at 12:37 pm Hey Natacha! thanks for the great insight!!, just wondering would you go by macros or calories if you were tracking or when you did track did u care if your calories were over your goal even when you have hit your macros perfectly? always happens to me on my fitness pal 😅 Reply VeganYogaLove x says: October 4, 2018 at 12:37 pm Your upper body is insane 😍😍 thank you so much for all the time and effort you put into your YouTube videos it definitely doesn't go unnoticed. Stick to one!! Reply Khadeeja S says: October 5, 2018 at 12:26 pm But you’re not the average person, you’re very active and muscular so you will obviously need more , for me ( I think I’m pretty average) 30 grams would be enough Reply chloé bourdeau says: October 5, 2018 at 1:29 pm Omg such a helpful video👍🏻 Reply yoursflrealtor says: October 6, 2018 at 12:25 pm Serving sizes in the US change based on the average consumption rather than what is recommended. 8 oz sodas are changing to 12 oz because people are more likely to consume additional servings.https://www.fda.gov/Food/GuidanceRegulation/GuidanceDocumentsRegulatoryInformation/LabelingNutrition/ucm385663.htm Great information and delivery. With citations. 👌🏾 Do you use any reference management software like EndNote? Reply norm loughran says: October 7, 2018 at 7:31 am Super interesting vid Natacha . Portions are ridiculous . I do mine by , ate too much , less next time . Ate too little , more next time . Weight on , eat smaller portion . Weight loss , eat bigger portions . We will all find over the week , we’ll eat very much the same food as the previous weeks . So for me controlling the portions is my diet hack . Thanks for a great vid . Love you as always . Norm.xxxx Reply Beatriz Lourenço says: October 7, 2018 at 1:59 pm Amazing video as usual!!! Loved it 🙂 Reply GlumAndi says: October 7, 2018 at 4:14 pm Hey 🙂 I really love how your arms are defined. May I ask you if you train a certain muscle more than another one to achieve that look? I mean your shoulders really show but I can‘t tell if you train them way more than triceps/ biceps or not! Love ya!! xx Reply sugar bomb says: October 7, 2018 at 6:54 pm It would be very interesting for me to see how you would eat in a day/ a week if you would try to eat vegan. Like a "vegan what I eat in a day" or a "vegan what i eat in a week". I know that you aren't eating a plantbased diet but it would be interesting for me anyway 🙂 Reply girl for happiness says: October 7, 2018 at 7:12 pm such a great and helpful video, thank you so much! how is it with salad and calories and never know are the calories with the sauce? and also if you have something with a side sauce like dips is the sauce included? Reply Holly says: October 7, 2018 at 10:17 pm My favorite is salad croutons. idk about the UK, but here in the states, a serving size of croutons is 2 Tablespoons…. TELL ME WHO TF IS USING A TABLESPOON TO MEASURE THEIR CROUTON SERVINGS? inquiring minds want to know… Reply Iulia Savoiu says: October 10, 2018 at 4:31 am In Europe we have calories and macros for 100g and in my opinion that’s awsome because you can easily compare foods between them and then choose your portion… I mean why should they tell me how much or little should I eat?!😂 Reply Viktorija Varan says: October 10, 2018 at 9:27 am I love how real you are! <3 Reply Jasmine Diantoro says: October 10, 2018 at 3:59 pm we love a fit and intelligent queen Reply Lauren Power says: October 10, 2018 at 5:48 pm Stevia has 2 calories per teaspoon Reply Charlotte O'Leary says: October 11, 2018 at 6:06 pm Wasn't it Lenny and Larry's cookies who claimed to make cookies with 18grams of protein and instead they had nearer 4g-9grams? Reply Kate Robinson says: October 13, 2018 at 9:03 pm How do you manage to eat 3000 calories and stay looking so good?? It's mind blowing! Reply Lauren Madden says: November 16, 2018 at 7:29 pm if we aren’t sure how many calories are in something completely how would you recommend tracking? love you and your videos!! ❤️❤️ Reply Linette Low says: November 28, 2018 at 6:37 am Thank you for sharing, Natacha 🙂 Much love to you and Mario always ♡ Reply Matilda Gunnarsson says: December 14, 2018 at 1:21 pm Also with ”Low fat” stuff they usually ADD in tons of things to thicken it since the fat usually does that naturally. The things they add in pretty much make the low fat version worse than the normal product Reply RHX Wong says: December 26, 2018 at 1:03 am The FDA recently approved a new label that addresses the awkward portion size and also acknowledges the difference between added sugar and total sugar. It’s set to be the standard come 2019/2020 Reply collarmole says: January 22, 2019 at 8:50 pm I love yaaaaa Reply Alexa Suess says: April 13, 2019 at 1:34 pm Ugh yes. I have a pancreatic disease that means I cannot process fat of any kind. And in the years of trying to figure out how to balance out my diet, these sorts of labels have been a nightmare. It leads me to question whether someone like me can even eat ''healthy'' or not. Reply Jennie Bennie says: April 15, 2019 at 3:38 pm I just tried that lemon bar. Its so fucking good. Lmao Reply Deanie Bartolay says: April 27, 2019 at 5:51 pm crucial! thank you Natacha <3 love you always Reply Mia says: August 12, 2019 at 4:10 am It is annoying and very hard for beginners. Honestly it feels like you can just eat super healthy in the beginning or you're not going to see results because of these tricks and other stuff.
