Smoothies! With The Domestic Geek! Mind Over Munch Kickstart Series
Alyssia: Hi guys! It’s January 8th we are
in the swing of things for keeping to our
New Year’s resolutions and this week I have
something really special for you guys. I am
doing a collaboration video with one of my
favorite Youtubers, Sara Lynn from The Domestic
Sara Lynn: Hi
Alyssia: Hi Sara Lynn. How you doing?
Sara Lynn: I’m excellent. How are you?
Alyssia: Great! Sara Lynn’s channel, The Domestic
Geek One, totally check it out if you haven’t
already and subscribe. She does healthy eating,
healthy home hacks, lots of good tips about
food. That’s what we connect on – we both
love food. For a healthy new year we have
smoothie goodness coming at you today. Sara
Lynn has three special smoothies she’s going
to share right here, right now on my channel.
Sara Lynn: And of course Alyssia has three
delicious smoothies she’s sharing on my channel.
Alyssia: So make sure you check out both of
the videos to get all the content. You don’t
want to miss it.
Sara Lynn: You don’t. It’s a lot of smoothie
Alyssia: So Sara Lynn tell me about what you’re
going to make for us today?
Sara Lynn: I am so excited to be sharing three
of my very fave smoothies. So my first is
actually a strawberry smoothie but it has
some oatmeal, and some almonds, it’s got some
protein built in which is really excellent.
The second is my black and blue smoothie.
Sounds very tough, doesn’t it? And then my
third smoothie is what I’m most excited about
and it is actually a cucumber melon smoothie.
Kind of tastes like a day at the spa. As smoothies
should. Like a day at the spa.
Alyssia: You get it? That was my cucumber…
Sara Lynn: Cucumber on your eyes?
Alyssia: So Sara Lynn, tell me about your
first smoothie. Strawberries.
Sara Lynn: You know what. I absolutely love
strawberry smoothies because obviously strawberries
Sara Lynn: But I really wanted to take this
one a step further by adding some tasty protein
sources. So it all starts with a little bit
of almond milk and some vanilla flavored Greek
yogurt. Now you could use plain Greek Yogurt
because we are going to sweeten it up at the
end but I do like the taste of vanilla mixed
in with strawberry.
Alyssia: Yeah I like the vanilla too. I like
to add the extra vanilla.
Sara Lynn: It’s very true. So once you’ve
got that into your blender you are going to
add some deliciousness. So I’ve got some oatmeal.
It sounds little mild in your smoothie but
it’s great protein actually and it really
fills you up. So that’s oatmeal and then
I’m adding some almonds. And don’t worry your
smoothie’s going to do the work. Just don’t
sweat it. People get a little stressed out
about putting raw nuts into their smoothies.
But as long as you have a good blender you’re
going to be good. And then to that I’m adding
some dates. So instead of honey or agave,
those would both work as well if you’re not
into dates, but we’re going to add three dates
that are just soaked. You can totally add
un-soaked dates but I can tell you from experience
they don’t mix together nearly as well if
you don’t soak them. So don’t say I didn’t
warn you. And then finally we’re going to
add beautiful strawberries. Now you can add
frozen strawberries or fresh strawberries,
it will work well either way. But frozen strawberries
at least give you that sort of cold fresh
Sara Lynn: Into the blender they go. You’re
going to blend them all and honestly, it’s
so delicious. Can’t wait for you to try
Alyssia: Shall we try the smoothie? There
Sara Lynn: Oh my god. It’s magic really?
Alyssia: Me first or you?
Sara Lynn: Oh, after you my dear. After you.
Alyssia: Oh my god
Sara Lynn: It’s awful
Alyssia: It’s so creamy. The almonds give
it a brilliant texture. They’re completely
blended up but you still get the nuttiness
and it’s creamy and nutty at the same time.
I don’t know it’s brilliant. My ultimate rating
for the strawberry dream: A+. Smoothie number
Sara Lynn: The black and blue. Now honestly
there could have been anything in this smoothie.
I just like the title of black and blue.
Alyssia: I do too
Sara Lynn: But it features some beautiful
blackberries and some awesome blueberries.
And it couldn’t be simpler to put together.
So we’re using some almond milk in the blender.
I like to add my liquid first. I feel like
it helps things blend a bit more smoothly
but really it doesn’t matter.
Alyssia: Get it going.
Sara Lynn: Almond milk goes in – you could
use dairy milk too just as easily. And then
it’s blueberries and blackberries in equal
parts and a banana for creaminess. If you
don’t like bananas – I know some people don’t
– yogurt. Yogurt would work just as well as
a replacement. So you can replace the banana
Alyssia: Good creaminess
Sara Lynn: Oh yeah. And then you just press
Alyssia: The black and blue.
Sara Lynn: Such a beauty.
Alyssia: It’s taste testing time
Sara Lynn: It’s like a one two punch of antioxidant
Alyssia: Oo that’s good.
Sara Lynn: And if it’s not sweet enough you
could always add like some honey or some agave.
I wanted to.
Alyssia: No actually it is sweet enough for
me. The berries are a little sharp but the
banana, it’s very a-peal-ling. Ultimate rating:
A+. Smoothie number three: Cucumber melon.
Sara Lynn: How can you not love this smoothie?
Basically cucumber and melon go together like
peanut butter and jelly. Just much more sophisticated.
Alyssia: I think so.
Sara Lynn: So what I love about this smoothie
is that it couldn’t be simpler to put together.
It’s again, we’re starting with a little bit
of milk. I’m using almond milk. Use whatever
kind of milk you like. And then we’re using
some vanilla yogurt, and to that we are going
to add some honeydew that I’ve just chopped
up. And some cucumber. Now I’ve removed the
peels. You really don’t have to. The peels
will be great fiber but they won’t blend up
very well. So keep that in mind. So I peeled
and seeded my cucumbers and chopped them up.
Into the blender they go. And then I’m just
going to add a little bit of coconut. It honestly,
it’s like goes along with that spa theme.
That really refreshing theme. So it’s going
to be really very refreshing drink. And once
the coconut’s in we’re just going to add a
banana. And you can add a frozen banana or
a fresh banana. But it just helps thicken
this all up a bit because the cucumber and
the honeydew have really high water contents
so they do tend to get a bit runny.
Alyssia: Alright. Good tip there. Thanks Sara
Sara Lynn: Blend it all up baby.
Alyssia: Over n out.
Sara Lynn: Hit. Hit blend. All you have to
Alyssia: Smoothie me. Very cucumber melony.
It’s like when you smell those lotions but
you put it into a smoothie and it doesn’t
have any of those chemicals.
Sara Lynn: That’s kinda exactly what it tastes
like. It tastes like soap or perfume.
Alyssia: But it tastes like the smell of the
soap. I think the banana helps with the creaminess
but I think it would be okay without it.
Sara Lynn: Yeah. So you could totally do it
both ways. It really is just about how thick
you like your smoothies.
Alyssia: Ultimate cucumber melon smoothie
