[Preview] How do you fine-tune a keto diet?

So I want to talk about your book,
“Wired to Eat”,
and in it you discuss four keto levers,
I think that’s sort of
one of the central points in the book, right?
So talk to us about that. What are they?
We’ll see if I can remember them,
because I haven’t…
Memory is not one of them.
So we have sleep, electrolytes,
caloric load…
Oh, I’m kind of blanking…
Sleep, electrolytes, caloric load…
I guess macros.
And we talked about this again
before rolling.
You’re less of a fan of the notion
of the negative impact of sleep on metabolism,
but I’ve seen it particularly from my work
within the police military fire scene.
Like it’s just a shockingly
degradative process
of these people being in shiftwork.
-You mean like working at night?
-Yeah.
We’re not getting enough sleep at all.
Both, short sleep, disordered sleep,
yeah I mean all those things.
Really metabolically impactful.
We talked a bit earlier about
hormone levels, both in males and females.
If you want to take a young otherwise
healthy looking male,
and this is going to apply to females too,
and make him look like a castrate,
just sleep-deprive him for a little bit
and give him some bad food
and his testosterone levels plummet,
his recovery plummets.
So that’s a really big deal.
