My KETO Experience (Pros & Cons)

this video is going to be completely
anecdotal as just my experience this
doesn’t apply to every single person in
the world so please don’t take it as
fact for everybody right this is purely
my anecdotal experience and this may
vary father people so I’ve experimented
with pretty much every single diet and
believe me when I say that I’ve tried at
all I’m that type of person right my
body is a test it’s a I’m a test subject
I try out all these different things to
find what works best for me so I’m like
a self experiment and I have
experimented with the ketogenic diet a
bit before because I like some aspects
of it and I dislike some aspects of it
so let’s start with what I really like
about the ketogenic diet so very quickly
for those of you who don’t know the
ketogenic diet is basically reducing
your carbohydrates down to about 5% and
the reason you do this is to get rid of
glucose as your main source of fuel and
replace it with ketone bodies which are
metabolized from dietary fat right and
you use these ketone bodies like beta
hydroxy butyrate as your main source of
fuel so you can enter nutritional
ketosis within a few days sometimes a
day or two if you’re quite fit young and
healthy um and over time as you do it
for 2 3 4 weeks your body becomes
accustomed to it and you become keto
adapted where your body’s primary source
of fuel becomes these ketone bodies so
there are some great studies coming out
showing that it might be really good for
cancer some sort of neurological
diseases Alzheimer’s schizophrenia
dementia depression there’s some
potential there it’s really good for
mitochondrial function and basically
what ketogenic diets are ketosis is
fasting but while you’re full that’s the
way I like to look at it so my
experience with the positive sides of it
have been that I find that my mental
focus especially when I become keto
adapted improves a lot so I’m able to do
a lot more work on my computer produce
more videos do more editing do a bit
more writing and I seem to be more
productive I seem to sleep less and need
less rest at night so I find myself
waking up earlier and a Maitai into
being more productive um some other
positive aspects that I like is that I
feel more Zen
right I feel more kind of grounded
relaxed and it’s strange and then I have
something to do with the GABA to
glutamine ratio in the brain and some
rat studies have shown that it increases
dopamine dopamine genic activity in the
brain so that’s quite interesting as
well so that side on the brain side I
find being in ketosis to be advantageous
for me personally on the negative side
is on physical performance
not so much cardiovascular performance
so I can generally run long distance at
the same speed same time I seem to be
completely okay for that but when it
comes to weight training it when it
comes to strength performance I find my
performance to be much much worse
even if I’ve become kind of keto adapted
after a month or two although for some
people it might take even longer for
that but but I know myself and I know
that I do not react well physically to
the ketogenic diet in terms of my
performance at the gym I can not lift as
much weight I can’t exercise as much
when it comes to strength training and
and bodyweight exercises and that made
me a matter of getting used to it and
some people certainly can and that’s
fine but for me the difference is night
and day if I if I consumed some sweet
potatoes or something I’m gonna be more
kind of vascular at the gym I’m gonna
have more energy I’m gonna crush the
weights more and the difference is quite
profound so that’s where I’ve kind of
made the decision that I would never
want to do the ketogenic diet long term
because my performance in my energy in
the gym is important to me in many ways
and I really enjoy that and I I don’t
find a diet which is diminishing my
ability and performance in the gym to be
something that’s appealing to me long
term um but some people find it
perfectly ok and they love it so though
that’s the big thing with me better for
the brain notice good for the body so my
kind of compromise to that is doing
intamin fasting with a diet that’s kind
of modified with keto sometimes when I’m
not as physically active and then more
carbohydrates as I’m physically active
and that’s kind of how I like to eat so
I like to incorporate things like beans
and sweet potatoes in my day to day life
and then do intimate fasting throughout
the day so I can slip into a state of
ketosis and get some of those Bennett
but still be able to eat some of those
foods like carbohydrates which increase
serotonin which help me um feel good as
well and then help me have more energy
in the gym so that’s basically my
compromise so my take on the ketogenic
diet obviously is that I like it I have
nothing against it I’m all for it I get
quite frustrated actually when some
people make claims like your body needs
glucose from carbohydrates which just
isn’t true we don’t need carbohydrates
to survive but on the other hand I
certainly do not think it’s a diet that
is acceptable or should be recommended
for every single person right nutrition
is subjective to our own genetics
alright somebody who has the apoe4 gene
for example 13% of Caucasians or African
Americans or something like that they
are not gonna react well to a high-fat
diet
despite ketosis being a perfectly normal
metabolic state but someone with a apoE
to gene for example might thrive on a
high-fat diet um so those are things you
have to consider as well so it’s not for
everyone but I certainly do incorporate
periods of dietary induce ketosis if I
am on a deadline for something and I
need to be more productive
um but overall complex carbohydrates in
my opinion are the way to go so that’s
my little opinion piece on the ketogenic
diet I may do some other diet reviews I
guess you could call them in the future
because I’ve basically experimented with
every single one so let me know if
