Ketogenic Diet for Dummies

Ketogenic Diet for Dummies

Hey guys, it’s Julie from Domesticating
Scout: DIY Solutions for the
Mothered Up & Tired as *&$!.
So, today we’re talking about keto
because obviously as busy moms or just
busy individuals, you need more energy
and that’s something I’ve been
struggling with so I hopped on this
little diet plan and it’s been around
forever.
It is a fad right now and I can see why it’s a fad. It’s been pretty great
losing 20 pounds in 4 weeks. So, I’m gonna
tell you guys what I did and how you can
get the same results. So let’s jump in!
Okay, so I wanted to jump on here and
give you my one month update I think. I
have the keto flu. I mean I’m sure I have
it. I didn’t…I tried to convince myself I
didn’t have it because I’m four weeks in
and I should have had it before now,
instead of right now, but I think that’s
what it is. Like I’m dead! I made these
little air fresheners. Oh my god bro, they’re
so stinking cute, but I can’t smell it, at
all! So, I had some kind of histamine
reaction. Like I felt like I needed an
EpiPen. I’m allergic to latex sometimes,
like not all the time. Tt’s totally weird
and one time I ate a banana and almost
ended up in the hospital because, I later
found out banana is a cross protein to
latex. So I mean whatever it feels like
THAT! So um, I did another video on
dealing with sinus infections. And that’s
what I’ve been doing so I’m on day 2 of
my nasal flushes and my little regimen
so hopefully, you know, in another day or
two I’ll be out of the woods, but I just
wanted to give you an update on where
I’m at with this keto diet. So I signed
up for fit2fat2ft. This guy was
on – sorry I don’t remember his name – I
know that’s just ridiculous, but he was
on the Jay Leno Show and he was talking…
you know they did
some prior photos of him when he was in
shape and then he started eating like
junk food: cinnamon toast crunch cereal
(and like five bowls a day) and just total
crap for six months and he gained like
70 pounds. And he started talking
about how he would go down to clip his
toenails and he’d have to come up for
air because, he was so miserable. And this
mind you was right around the beginning
of January when I saw this in my
Facebook feed. So, I’m sure they had some
kind of marketing campaign for New
Year’s resolutions stuff like that, but
by the third week only
like, I think, 7% of all people that have
set a New Year’s resolution are still
sticking with it so I think the only
reason I’m still sticking with it is
because, I had never had a resolution in
the first place. I just happened to fall
into the feed and I could totally relate
with what he was saying. I mean I’m
overweight and I’m tired! I gained a lot
of weight after my third child. Before
then I was fairly active and in fairly
good shape. So, you know, I’m just that
typical American “I let myself
go” story. You know, that mom. I’ve
heard plenty of those stories mm-hmm.
A little backstory is: my father…
This is SUPER hard for me to talk about (ok). My
father passed away a couple years ago
and he really let himself go. I mean his
whole life he was in good shape and a
good weight and it just came naturally
he didn’t really have to try it. And I
remember he called me and he said, he
couldn’t lift his arms over his head. And
he had to get my sister to come and help
him take off his shirt. And at the time…
come to find out he had rheumatoid
arthritis, which I now understand is
autoimmune disease and he was dead
within two years.
So I really struggle with taking care of
myself and I feel disloyal to him like
somehow I’m leaving him behind. I know he
wouldn’t want that for me so… Anyway I’ve
lost 20 pounds in a month and I
understand that this is water weight.
Like this is something that happens in
ketosis when you first start and it just
kind of rapidly falls off depending
on who you are and how your body reacts
to the ketosis and your eating plan. And
I do this intermittent fasting which
until just a few weeks ago I didn’t know
what that was. So I think it’s… you know. I try to have my last meal by 8
o’clock (pm) and then not eat again until
noon. So I got my husband doing this
with me too, which is great because, he’s
really trimmed out as well. And his
25-year reunion is coming up so it’s just
a win. Anyway, we started it together and
we work out in the morning together with
bulletproof coffee, which is just coffee
with butter and coconut oil.
My second son snuck a little drink of
it thinking it was gonna be a
Starbucks latte. Oh, he was upset. So
anyway, we don’t eat until noon and then
we eat what’s on the Fit2Fat2Fit
plan. And we don’t eat again until supper.
And, I mean, if I get hungry like I’m not
gonna… I’m not gonna… I didn’t, I didn’t
realize how much I use the word retarded.
I mean it’s so offensive. So let me
say I’m not gonna do… like go crazy and
go after some stuff, but if I want a
slice the cheese, and I feel like it’s
really gonna pull me through, or a
handful of macadamia nuts I’m gonna go
for it even if it’s not my meal plan. And
I still feel some fatigue so I’ve
watched a lot of videos and they’re like
you’ll know, you’re over the hurdle when
you can not be hangry, which I’m not
there yet. Like five o’clock I’m feeling
a little, you know… so I try to get a
little snack right there. And they say
you know you’ll have lots of energy,
which I do I have more energy than I
have in a while. And I’ve started making
the “ketorade” with the MIO Water
Enhancer and a couple pinches of salt in
my 32 ounce tumbler. And that really
seems to pull me out of the out of the
lull that I can get into. And the MIO
Energy… that one tastes so delicious, but
it is packed with caffeine. So, I usually
around 130
I’ll do the tumbler with one squeeze of
the energy and one squeeze of the
multivitamin just to kind of give myself
a little boom. So that’s my my workaround
for that right now until I kind of
figure out my macros and how things
affect me and whatever. So anyway, I’m
going to forge on and see how how I feel
and I’m sure now…. like I’m peeing like
I’m nine months pregnant. I’m like, no lie
bro… I am going to the bathroom so much!
And it isn’t like a bladder infection.
Like, “oh, I feel like I go.” and I run in
there and it’s a little tinkle-tinkle. It is a
full-on morning bathroom when you wake
up and you pee because you’ve been
holding it all night. It’s totally crazy!
So I can see how this water weight is
just falling off. Who knew I was carrying
around 20 pounds of water weight?
Everything is feeling…. I don’t feel as
bloated or swollen for sure. I did notice…
We’re working out as well and I did
notice… like my pants are fitting like
solid. Like I’m filling my pants in so I
don’t know if like: my hips are getting
wider or what’s happening there, but
consistently, I’ve been working out for
one month with my husband. So I’m
definitely seeing some changes there. So
I feel slimmer and the scale is
reflecting that the weight is coming off,
but my pants are kind of filling out. So
I don’t I don’t know what’s going out
there. I just have to keep you posted on
that. And let’s see what else? I think
that’s it. I think that’s it really. I’m
just a little spacey, a little hangry.
Still, I’m still trying to figure out my
electrolytes and those MIO Water
Enhancers are… Dude, I’m down! Like, people
are like, “oh, there’s artificial
sweeteners,” but everybody in this like
weight loss network is taking stevia. And
I mean is that really unnatural? I mean
really, when I think about a natural
sweetener, if it’s not sugar or honey,
well then it’s not natural.
I don’t know. I don’t even care. So as
long as… from what I understand, you can’t
have like a certain color packets that
are not to be named. Like, you know what
I’m talking about.
S, YouTube channels… Keto Connect and they do a great little comparison on sugars:
artificial sugars, two sugars how they
affect your blood. And they do all
the work for you. Like they just take the
guesswork out of it. So if you are
just starting I would say head over to
that channel because, they got so many
resources. And it’s a husband-and-wife
team. Or they’re engaged. I don’t know
whatever that whatever is going
on there, but they have a lot of
comprehensive videos. And they’ll like…
fat head pizza dough compared to
cauliflower pizza dough. You know, they do
a bunch of this stuff and then they
review it. They make it themselves. You
know… weigh in on it, vote on it. Anyway, I
don’t…I ain’t trying to pitch whatever
they’re doing over
just go check it out if you want to. And
Fit2Fat2Fit, I mean, so far so good.
I think this may be a lifestyle
switch for us for sure and our kids. You
know, ironically, are always telling us
we’re fat. So you know… they’re dealing
with some peer pressure as well. So it’s good for everybody. And we have a
vacation this summer that we’re all
super looking forward to. And it would be
great not to, you know, cover up, or feel
awkward, or make them feel awkward. This
is my final tip, but really it should be
my second tip. I just want to say that
food prep is a big deal! Like DON’T blow
this off. Shop one day. Prepare all your
food the same day or the next day, but
keep it close. And prepare your food for
the week. Especially the first two weeks!
I would say do not… whatever your
schedule is, make room for this because,
you’re going… You’re a fish out of water!
You’re gonna be hungry and you’re gonna
make mistakes. If that foods not
available to you. I mean you’re already
struggling and then now you have to
figure out what to eat when it’s already
it’s already been planned for you. And so
you’re gonna start cooking bacon for
dinner and you’re gonna eat all the
bacon on the plate before the entree is
ready. So: get your shopping list, go
shopping, come home and make the food, or
put the food way and make the food the
next day, but either way – make your food
for the week! And if you can pick up a
food scale I would do that as well.
They’re relatively inexpensive on Amazon.
That’s where I got mine, but I mean you
can pick them up anywhere. For the meat
portions it’s a big deal or if you’re
cooking for more than one person. Like I
cook for my husband and myself. He does
help me out some, but his his portions
are different than mine. So, it really
comes in handy. So that’d be one thing I
would try to include. Okay, let’s just do
a quick recap. So… One: stay hydrated. It’s
not a matter of “if” you’re gonna get the
keto-flu, it’s a matter of “when”. And it
just seems to knock it down. I’m sure
it’s not gonna
as intense if you’re well hydrated and
your electrolytes are up. Two: do the best
with what you understand and obviously
this one hits home and it’s very
persona.l I mean, you don’t want to look
at someone that matters to you and say,
“Well, I didn’t get the results because, I
didn’t even try.” So health is important
to me more now than ever. And the the
third one is: if you’re not going to join
a program, that’s kind of done all the
work for you, then look into intermitttttent….
intermittent fasting. (That’s one thing I
didn’t include here, but you’re gonna
turn into a major airhead! You’re
slurring your word. You can walk the
pantry and you don’t know what’s up!) Yeah,
just keep that in mind too. So,
intermittent fasting is, and you can read
more about it in the Obesity Code, that
one has a lot of momentum as well,
and it’s just an eating pattern. It’s
gonna help you get better results in my
opinion. And really, this also goes hand-in-hand
with the last point, but just get
reliable sources. Do do your homework and
find some people that have obviously
been down this road because, it’s a fad
diet right now, but it’s been around
forever. I mean it’s helped children with
epilepsy and things along that line, so
it’s not like something that’s new to
hit the scene. It’s just very popular
right now. Dr. Eric Berg on YouTube…. he
has like a million subscribers I think,
as of the Super Bowl. So he’s a good
source and he’s really good at treating
the problem not the symptom. So you can
really get lost on his channel! If you…
it’s a little rabbit hole. Like, I went
out there looking for a problem and two
hours later I’m still there and like,
whoa I gotta start dinner. So anyway. The next one Iwould say: don’t reinvent the wheel if
you don’t have to. And by that I mean: if
you’re not a nutritionist why wreck
yourself doing the research. If you have
a little extra money you can throw at it:
Fit2Fat2Fit is a pretty inexpensive plan. He’s got a
90-day jump start. And it really takes
the guesswork out of everything. He tells
you how to eat ,when to eat, what to eat,
how to exercise, what to do, how long, you
know… piece of cake.
As long as you just do what he says. And
the last one is obviously in line with
the meal plan. De gives you a great
shopping list: his and hers, how much you
should have if you’re a female, how much
he should have. And then what you need to
buy. And like I said I buy the
groceries one day, usually on Saturday,
and I prepare all the food on Sunday.
Sometimes I do both on Sunday if it’s a
hectic week, but when you first start I
know I got better results because, I did
exactly what he said! And I did the meal
prep. So there was like two nights where
I didn’t do what I was supposed to. Like
I didn’t work ahead. And I was making the
bacon. And like, it’s coming off the
frying pan, but the plate, where it should
be receiving the bacon, is empty.
Bro, it will happen! So just help yourself.
Be ready because, if you follow these
tips you’re gonna get similar if not
better results than me! And it’s as easy
as he says. Just do what he says (or find
a plan that you can follow). And if you
start, hey, I’d love to hear from you too!
And if this video helped you, you know,
subscribe, save, share, comment! I’d love to
hear from you! Alright, thanks.
