How to make Mochi

July 21, 2019 100 By William Morgan

What’s going on sauce makers
my name is Mark
and welcome to Sauce stache
tonight We’re making
Mochi now Mochi is
a Japanese rice cake
or Japanese dough
that you commonly find wrapped
around ice cream
or red bean paste.
Now, you can use it in a bunch
of different dessert cooking
or eat it by itself.
It’s pretty good
and it’s simple to make
so let’s get started.
Here’s the ingredients
and I’m going to use
for tonight’s simple
Mochi recipe we’re going
to use 1 cup water 1/4 cup
white sugar 1 cup
of sweet rice flour about
1/4 cup of cornstarch,
and I have a teaspoon
of green tea powder.
Now, you don’t have to use
the green tea powder.
I just want to make
my Mochi green kind of fun.
That is a good little adds
a little flavor to it.
So we’re making a very quick
version of this not authentic.
This is going to be
a microwave version.
So I am putting everything
besides the cornstarch
into a microwave-safe bowl.
And whisking together,
make sure you remove all
the clumps of the matcha powder
the green tea powder
and it’s an even mix
you don’t want
anything clumping up
and the matcha powder
seems to do though.
It’s good turn a nice
like green Hue.
So I’m going to now
add the one cup
of water slowly whisking
in this is my turn into almost
a batter consistency.
You can see so now we’re going
to cover this with cellophane
and take it over
to the microwave.
So we’re going to want
to microwave this on high
for about three to three
and a half minutes.
I’m going to do three minutes
first give it a stir
and then microwave it
for 30 second increments
until it’s completely
combined mokey.
Okay.
So at this point
what we’re going to do is
we’re going to work the dough
out into small manageable pieces
and we can wrap
around some ice cream.
So I have some cornstarch here.
I’m just going
to spread this out
on my work surface to make sure
that Leave enough.
I’m gonna be kind of
running short and wish I
would have went and got more.
But while this is
still really hot.
I’m gonna do is turn this out
onto cornstarch work surface,
and I’m going to
so we should be able
to stretch this out
and roll this out
to about a foot
by ten inches or so.
This is really hot.
A little bit of Mochi
to stick in here.
Oh this looks so cool.
So excited about this.
If you’ve never had
Mochi make this or go
find some it is a treat.
There we go.
Look at that.
So this point kind of want
this to be dusted pretty even
so I’m going to see
if I can get any excess
corn starch off on here,
but it neat
unedible looking thing.
I mean, seriously,
how Wild is so now I’m going
to try to divide this
into eight even sections.
I want to go halfway
do halfway again.
Look at how neat this is.
Okay again, let’s get off
as much of this corn starch
as we can and I’m going
to go get our fillers here.
Actually.
I’m going to try a piece of this
so you can eat the Mochi just
how it is just this section.
Now this one came a little bit
more green green tea.
You can probably do more sugar
when you use yours.
Boom red bean paste.
It’s the weirdest out of thing.
But oh my God canned sweetened
red bean paste is so good.
So what I did was I put
this together last night.
I just rolled out a few balls
of red bean paste through them
in the freezer overnight
and they’re ready to go.
So all you do to make
these Mochi treats is
you place the ball in the center
and then fold this over
and roll into a bun treat dust
with just a little bit more
of the corn starch Mochi
ball Mochi ice cream treat
and do the same thing just
kind of pinch the seam
together pull it up boom
and this stuff is sticky.
So you want to make sure
that you keep adding more
of the corn starch
until You’re done.
Well, that’s it.
Sausage makers mocchi.
I know I’ve said no key a bunch
of times but it’s Mochi.
So this is mochi
with a red bean paste interior
that cut one open first just
so you can see the inside
of these things.
How cool is that?
How cool is that Mochi?
I’m gonna give it a try.
Hmm.
Oh, it’s such a treat.
Oh, I’m so good.
Well, that’s what I got
