How to make a Bacon Wrapped Turkey – Thanksgiving recipes to give you a foodgasm

good morning YouTube it is Thursday
November 23rd Happy Thanksgiving
so thank you for joining me in the
biggest ray-ray at home today we’re
gonna be making a bacon-wrapped turkey
not at all traditional for me as
traditional this will be the eighth year
that I have wrapped an entire turkey and
bacon and made a a very non traditional
stuffing so you can see behind me I’ve
got a few things here already staged so
I can get ready to make my turkey
I’ve got approximately actually I have
exactly 3 pounds of bacon just for the
turkey I’ve also got my stuffing that I
made and that whole process started two
days ago you can’t have a stuffed turkey
wrapped in bacon without a stuffing so
my stuffing is not at all traditional it
starts with a lot of apples a lot of
crazy and some brown sugar and some
fantastic Moscato these Fuji apples for
a base dried craisins and some brown
sugar and that’s just for me to drink
course I got my Starbucks and I use this
stuff right here electrum makes this
orange mousse cat it’s a fantastic
Moscato and winds up being the base I
for one am NOT a fan of these things
what I do it just simply doesn’t work
these things we’re getting rid of those
for those of you out there who require
measurements figure three apples is
about 1 pound you want to have
approximately one cup of craisins for
every pound of apples and we’re going to
do a similar amount of brown sugar to go
with that the first thing we have to do
is fill up this Pyrex with cut-up apples
for this part of the process we’re going
to be using approximately two and a half
pounds of apples now if we do math
that’s going to be roughly eight to ten
apples now that we’ve got our Pyrex full
of apples here it’s going to be time to
add the dessert wine the craisins and
the brown sugar in go the craisins I’m
gonna put two of these scoop it says 1/2
something half cup I’m sure I’m gonna
put two of them in here you can tell I
didn’t exactly measure this the last
ingredient in this concoction is going
to be the Elector I’m just going to pour
some of this inside of here and then
we’ll start around just a little bit
fill it till it goes to the top and stir
everything up handily now that we have
our concoction completely concocted I’m
gonna put the lid on top of this we’re
gonna slide into the refrigerator and
sit there for two days
all right back to today Thursday
Thanksgiving so we’re gonna jump right
into the process of putting this
bacon-wrapped turkey together stuffing
it with the apples craisins of brown
sugar concoction that we’ve got soaking
for two whole days in Moscato it’s gonna
be great so let’s go ahead and dive in
guys in a don’t hate me if you’re
jealous at the end of this video this is
going to go in this hole right here and
so one thing with this guys I’ve got a
giant bowl of filling here I need to
take out some of the filling and put
into a smaller bowl I’m gonna be
scooping out putting it into the bird I
don’t want to put a an instrument or a
spoon if you will back into the mixture
of all that after it’s touched you know
the raw Turkey all right so this is a
pretty monotonous process overall but
it’s one that’s very important and that
is stuffing the turkey I like to do this
part first now but I’d rather everything
be inside the bird now when I get
started now so whenever it does get
wrapped in bacon uh nothing nothing gets
harmed I wanted to look it’s pretty and
complete as possible also something I
like to do guys is I like to pin this
little back flap of skin here on the
turkey I like to just pin it shut with a
couple of toothpicks I don’t want to you
know fall out of the back it’s really
fantastic guys all right so it’s time to
top this off oh don’t you guys wish you
were here to just pick that up and eat
it so guys this is what’s left of the
bowl once it’s all put in there there’s
a good amount of wine left and now that
does not get wasted I have an injector
so I need to give a shout out to my
neighbor Mac he totally let me use his
injector so thanks Mac my neighbor for
letting me use his injector and right in
there we go
this comes the single most important
part of a bacon-wrapped turkey the bacon
you can see I’ve got three pounds of
bacon most of this if not all of it is
going to go all over the bird so I’ve
got the first leg done I’m gonna try to
go through this a little bit here with
the second leg and just give you an idea
of what I do here guys everybody’s going
to have their own way of doing this and
that’s a hundred percent fine this is
just you know a way that I found to do
it I’m sure there’s other better ways to
do it but you know I’m not a chef I only
do this once a year I just do the best I
can you know you know really hope for
the best
and years gone by it’s turned out pretty
darn good it usually looks pretty good
so also guys if you look right here you
can see I made this to small incision in
the skin that just gives me a little bit
more wiggle room in a place just to kind
of took the bacon in there so also guys
don’t be scared to cut strips of bacon
in half and put them where you need them
there’s no harm in doing that you can
see we’ve got a little dangler right
down here at the bottom I’m going to use
a toothpick and just pin that piece of
bacon in place the next thing to wrap is
going to be the wings same premise just
pull the wing out and wrap it up in
delicious porcine all sonís remember
guys this isn’t exact science always
just do the best you can and have fun
with it the big thing with this is have
fun get up there you bacon alright guys
I have the legs and the wings
successfully wrapped in bacon I’m gonna
put a few strips just over this right
here just to help complete the bacon
look the bacon weave is going to be what
covers the top part of the turkey really
the lion’s share the entire project is
the bacon weave that we’re going to make
with this right here I’m going to start
but just by moving slab of bacon here
out of the way and we’re gonna lay out
just a bunch of strips of bacon into a
row here I like to do just about one
single pack of bacon or one pound for
we’ve now you can measure the length of
your bird usually one you know length of
bacon you know one full strip will cover
up you know the length of the bird
that’s a good rule of thumb
depending on the size bird you get is
going to negate how much bacon you need
I tend to go for 20-pound turkeys that’s
a great size for me and my family I
think that the flavor you get from a
bird that size is much better than what
you get from some of the large you know
24 25 pound turkeys so we want to make a
square out of this if you will I’m just
gonna measure here and I can see them a
little bit longer right here so I’m
gonna lay out just one more strip of
bacon and that’s going to be the size of
my bacon weave this is this is it right
here
I’ve got to pick up you know my giant
glass cutting board here that’s got the
bacon weave on it and then we’re just
going to drape that right over the top
of the turkey here and then we’ll
stretch it to fit once we’ve got that
part done so this is a one of the
coolest and also most scary parts of
this entire process for me but I’ll just
pick it up lay it down and then there’s
well drop it right on the turkey just
like that alright so we’ve got the bacon
weave on top of the turkey right now you
can see there’s a some open-faced right
here we’ve got it just grab the entire
weave and as gently as possible you just
got to maneuver it around get the the
wing out of the way here we’re just
going to slide this porcine blanket of
Awesomeness forward until it covers up
our bird I need to make sure that we’ve
got a lot of even coverage here and then
again I mentioned those toothpicks we’re
gonna need to pin this in place guys we
want this to be in place you know once
we get it secured we’ll move the bacon
so we can you know get as much coverage
here as possible and again guys this is
the bacon-wrapped turkey this is what
I’m gonna put in the oven later so we’ve
been in here now just at four hours this
is just about done I’m gonna let it cook
uncovered for about 15 minutes just to
help crisp up this bacon alright YouTube
will just pull the bacon wrapped
turkey out of the oven look at this
guy’s oh my goodness that looks amazing
look at that 100% cooked up to
temperature of course way to check that
before we pulled it out and right next
door we have a deep-fried turkey that’s
how we do it at the biggest rayray house
one bird is never enough all right so we
finally got everything put together the
turkey is done I’m gonna zoom in just on
this right here so you can see the
turkey that was wrapped in the bacon and
then the turkey that was deep-fried so
it’s painfully obvious I’m great at
making food I’m not great at cutting up
my food we get the job done but it’s not
pretty if there’s any chefs out there
watching this leave a comment and I
might invite you to my house next year
can show me how to do it better
seriously I need help my dad tried to he
did better than me we need help so from
