HOW TO GET BACK ON TRACK WITH HEALTHY EATING & LIFESTYLE | MY TOP 5 TIPS

January 24, 2020 1 By William Morgan

hi guys welcome back to my channel my
name is vini i am a registered holistic nutritionist living in vancouver and
today i want to talk all about how to get back on track after maybe having a
more indulgent night the reason why i’m talking about this is because last night
for me was definitely quite indulgent i had some red wine i had some amazing
chocolate i had salted caramel ice cream which is my all-time favorite flavor
it’s so good I had some fat bombs I mean it was a lot but it was a lot of fun and
I feel like that’s like you’re not gonna be eating kale and brussel sprouts every
single day do I eat these foods every single day no personally I don’t I know
some people do really well with just having one square of dark chocolate and
that just like satisfies their cravings but for me when I have sugar I want more
and more of it so I try to steer clear of having refined sugar every single day
that isn’t to say that I don’t have treat so every single day I consider my
smoothie bowls delicious kabocha squash with tahini is like just heaven to me
but having those refined sugar filled treats there’s something that I try and
limit in my diet here’s the thing years ago I used to never indulge in these
foods I would steer clear of any alcohol I would never have any like brownies or
cookies or soldier caramel ice cream and just personally I don’t think that’s
maintainable I love having treats I love chocolate so for me it feels
really balanced to have these nights once every few weeks enjoy them and then
the next day just use these little tips to make me feel my best and that’s the
trick we do not want to go on some crazy detox I don’t want you to be doing hours
of cardio the next day there are simply some little tricks little
you can use in order to feel your best the next day without going crazy I’m
also not the biggest fan of activated charcoal I’m not the biggest fan of
anything to overstimulating for your system and to stripping I’m all about
balance and these tips are really balanced way to kind of get yourself
back on track so with that being said let’s start with tip number one which is
free and easy and that is hydration I think that this tip is so overlooked I
talk about hydration all the time but especially the morning after having a
more indulgent night I make sure to have at least a liter of water first thing I
make sure to make that room-temperature water because cold water can be really
hard on your digestive system room temperature is going to make sure that
everything gets flowing yes digestion is huge the next day so
your your body may be a little bit off and the water is gonna help you with
that so I’m gonna go grab my water I’m gonna drink about a liter of it and then
I’m gonna have my morning coffee and get into the next tip and while I did say
that I’m not a big fan of activated charcoal and you really love things like
spirulina spilling is a really easy greens powder to add to your water into
your smoothies and so that’s what I really love adding in I’m not promising
that it’s gonna detox your body I just think it is filled with minerals that
maybe didn’t get the night before I just want to say I know that those are
not the healthiest thing in the world for you but I accidentally had one like
a week ago and now I’m just having one every single day and I just can’t stop
because I love Cola and that used to be one of the things that I was obsessed
with before I really got into holistic nutrition so this just feeds that kind
of craving for me so I don’t want to talk about it but yes I’m having it and
I want to share it because it’s part of my day Tanner I’m going to put that in
I want to go on to tip number two and that is to move your body so that can be
in the form of a workout it can be in the form of just going for a walk
doing some yoga as you saw I took it super easy on the bike all I did was
like 30 minutes and I just from stretching and some foam rolling and I
cannot tell you what that did for my mood I feel like I can drink a lot more
water as well because I’m like sweating everything out whenever I’m exercising
so I had another full liter when I was on the bike we have a lymphatic system
which unlike a circulatory system does not have its own pump so this means that
your lymph which is your immunity essentially it doesn’t get moved around
your body unless you move you have to move your lymphatic system for it to
kind of go get circulating so that’s what you feel a lot better after you’ve
exercised a lot of the time is because you’re getting that lymphatic drainage
and that’s also why I did the foam rolling was because it is so good for
your lymphatic system because you’re literally like moving the lymph around
your body as you roll I’ve also been getting way more into stretching lately
so I’m just trying to be able to touch my toes I’ve never been a flexible
person so let’s hope that I can actually keep to it so now I’m just gonna drink
this I’m going to actually start editing this video and then we’ll get into tip
number three okay my tip number three has to do more with your mindset and
that is to release the guilt of eating these sorts of foods I think for so long
I used to feel this extreme guilt whenever I’d have ice cream or chocolate
and I just feel like I like quote/unquote messed up on my diet which
really just is not true this mindset really caused me to snowball in the past
so I would have one night where I’d indulge in these foods and then I was
like well I’ve messed it up I may as well
dole jism tomorrow and the next day and the next day and I was just over eating
the entire time and I just couldn’t help myself because I felt so bad and so
guilty I know this is so much easier said than done but the way I try and
look at it is that a balanced diet is not going to be perfect and really
having one day where you indulge in food and eat maybe a lot more than you’re
used to or going out for drinks or having cookies and brownies that is not
going to impact your health in the long term I love this quote that one healthy
meal does not make you healthy and one unhealthy meal
does not make you unhealthy because it really puts things into perspective if
you look at the grand scheme of things having these treats once in a while for
most individuals is not going to negatively impact your health and this
leads me into my fourth tip and that is to not restrict calories purposely the
next day so it is normal to maybe not be eating quite as much the following day
intuitively just because your body probably has a lot of energy in it from
the day before but I think where people go wrong is where they’re really trying
to just restrict those calories I think when you must strip calories the next
day it gets you in that binging mindset where you restrict then you binge then
you restrict then you binge and it can be a slippery slope so I think that not
restricting calories next day and just eating intuitively is the best practice
I hope you’ll get some groceries for dinner and that will lead us into my
fifth and final tip okay so it’s now the next day I just
enjoyed my dinner last night and the lighting wasn’t great smells like I’ll
just do the tip tomorrow so my fifth and final tip on how to feel your best is to
focus on liver loving foods I also do want you to focus on Whole Foods but I
feel like really focusing on the liver is super important the liver is a body’s
detox fire so if we support it it can help naturally detoxify our body and
unfortunately things like refined sugar and things like alcohol negatively
impacted liver so we’re going to have to do some damage control the next day some
liver loving foods include things like cruciferous vegetables so that is kale
broccoli Brussels sprouts cauliflower those all fall under the cruciferous
vegetable family anything fermented is awesome so sauerkraut kimchi with the
probiotic yogurt is an awesome addition as well as garlic that can be a really
helpful Lippert loving food that is such a tongue twister liver loving food you
know just foods that are really good for the liver so as we saw last night I
included sauerkraut in my meal I have Brussels sprouts and then today what I
did is I just ingredient prepped some kale which all I had to do was wash it
shred it put it in a big container and then that way I can just add it to my
food throughout the week if you don’t love eating the same thing but you kind
of want to be more prepared with food I recommend ingredient prepping which is
why I shredded the kale and I’ll oftentimes do my book just squash in
advance so my Brussels sprouts in advance that way you have healthy food
ready for you but you can kind of mix and match to make your own meal so those
are my five tips on how to feel your best and I can say I feel a lot better
today than I did the day before so I think the tips really worked honestly
anything after the workout I felt so much better if you’re not already make
