How the Keto Community Can Help People with Cancer – Healthy Ketogenic Diet

How the Keto Community Can Help People with Cancer – Healthy Ketogenic Diet

You know I believe that everything happens
for a reason.
And something happened on Thursday that caused
me to be making this video on Saturday, and
I want to share that with you.
First of all, I want to welcome the wellness
warriors back to Mind Blowing Health and Wellness
with Violet.
And for those of you who don’t know who I
am, I am Violet.
I’m a psychologist and I work out of Montreal
Canada.
The reason I make these videos is because
I do believe that our mental health and our
physical health come together to create our
overall feeling of well being, so obviously
taking care of both will help us to feel better
and to enjoy life.
I had a really crazy Thursday.
Which I’m going to share with you and it’s
going to help you to understand why I’m making
today’s video which is about a cancer center.
And how Keto possibly is gonna help cancer.
On Thursday I was invited to a meet and greet
at a wellness center for cancer.
And of course I accepted to go because my
idea was that I would learn more about this
service I do have client who are managing
their own cancer or cancer of loved ones.
I cleared my afternoon for this meeting.
That’s the first piece of this puzzle that
you need to kind of understand.
So I cleared my afternoon for the meeting.
After four o’clock I did a few things to finish
up in the office and I left to be there for
5.
I actually arrived a bit late, it was 5:15
when I arrived.
And there weren’t any cars in the parking
lot.
Now I know that the wellness center closes
at 4:30 so I thought maybe I was just one
of the first professionals to arrive.
So I go to enter, I can’t enter and there’s
no doorbell.
I was a little bit frustrated.
I go back to my car and well since I have
left my office early I had a few more phone
calls and text messages to do so I start to
do that quickly and by the time I finish doing
that which is like 20 minutes later, someone
comes walking out of the building.
So I leap out of my car and I’m just like
“Excuse me, excuse me, I think there’s supposed
to be a meeting here today?”.
Only to find out that the meeting was rescheduled
to September.
Long story short, there was the nurse who
was still in the building.
So, I think this was the finance person took
me inside to meet the nurse.
And so since I had cleared my schedule for
this meeting and since I wasn’t sure I’d be
able to clear my schedule a second time, the
nurse graciously offered to give me a tour
of the building since I was already there
and explain the programs they offer, just
to help me to understand what I might have
learned at the meeting.
I can’t tell you how blown away I was by what
I learned about this center.
The first thing I want you guys to understand
is that this center not only helps the cli
… the participant not client.
The participant who has cancer.
But this center also helps their givers.
So right away I thought that was really interesting.
But then the part that blew me out of the
water was, they help all these people for
free.
Most of the time when you are waiting for
free services, you are through the hospital
and you are waiting months on end.
And this place is less than a kilometer away
from my office and I didn’t know it existed
and I didn’t know the great work they were
doing.
So, first of all, I’m amazed that they are
able to give free services.
But second of all, I was amazed to find out
the quality of the services.
In actuality, the participants are getting
services from students who are learning to
do their crafts.
So that means psychology students, that means
massage therapist students, that means like
any professional that would be able to help
someone with a cancer scenario.
Students have the opportunity to give services
there.
However it is also the actual professionals.
Professionals are volunteering their time
to the center to provide services.
So actual psychiatrists, psychologists, and
massage therapists, and other kinds of professionals
are donating their time to the center so that
people can have appropriate care.
Now the center is called the West Island Cancer
Wellness Center.
And I’m just gonna, I’m looking at the website
right now because I don’t want to get any
of this wrong.
So just from looking at the website, what
you can see is that.
First of all there is a whole wellness team.
So the founder, Debbie Magwood, M.Ed.
OPQ President.
So OPQ is the order of psychologists so that
means that this person is a psychologist or
a therapist of some kind.
Again, I just found this site so I can’t even
give you a lot of details on what each person
is doing.
I spoke with the nurse so I’m gonna make the
assumption that was Danielle.
I know she told me her name but “me” and names.
But the most important thing here is that
there’s quite a few people giving services
at this wellness center.
Let’s go back.
And they’re a registered charity dedicated
to offering compassionate care and support
to anyone experiencing cancer.
Either having it themselves or supporting
someone with cancer.
Fundraising, without any funding from the
government.
No government funding.
We continue to rely on the generosity of our
community, corporations, foundations, and
fundraising.
And if you’d like to host a fundraiser, we’d
love to hear your ideas.
They talk about helping people with coping
mechanisms, finding personal support, becoming
better informed about your specific cancer,
navigating the medical system, find strength
and become empowered, live well while living
with cancer, realize you are not alone.
I have to tell you when I heard that this
place existed my number one goal was: how
can I make sure that more people know about
this place.
I’m gonna put the address and everything.
And actually the link to the website is gonna
be in my description.
Because I need everybody to know that this
place exists.
Let’s just look at programs and services to
see what kind of services that they are offering.
So actually in order to know what kind of
services they’re offering you need to actually
look at their calendar.
And then you get a list of what services are
available.
And again, excuse me, I’m stumbling on my
words but I’m doing this in real time.
So we have acupressure, financial adviser,
Swedish massage, wellness guide, SPHERE energy,
private counseling, yoga yin style, knitting
and crochet, light massage with crystals,
Reiki, individual coaching for caregivers,
there is actually a library, energy healing,
some of the things repeat obviously, like
the schedule seems to go to March the 19.
There is also gentle yoga, reflexology, there
is a social worker available, sound healing
meditation, re connective healing, movements
of bodily awakening, chair massage, all of
these services that I’m naming right now are
free services.
So obviously you can see that there is a lot
available.
I also know that the nurse mentioned to me
that they have therapeutic art that clients
get to do.
As well as cooking classes that they get to
do.
So there was a really nice lovely kitchen
that I visited.
They have 3 massage rooms if I remember correctly.
There is a large gym that they have available.
Now, I almost forgot to mention that while
I was there she mentioned that they recently
have started providing retreats for the cancer
participants and their care givers.
Free retreats.
The retreats are to a very nice room home
that’s up north.
So, up north of the West Island, if I’m remembering
correctly.
If I’m wrong, I apologize.
Like I said, I just learned this information
on Thursday.
First of all, they get to continue because
of volunteers and because of donations.
And I just want to go back to the about us
because I want to see the team so I can say
the name of the person who runs the center
properly.
But, if I understood correctly, she herself
went through cancer and … Debbie Magwood.
So, I’m impressed that she was able to get
all of this up and running on donations.
So the reason I’m making this video is because
I want people to know this place exists.
Montreal, West Island, this place exists.
Please share this video, let people know that
this place exists.
I understand that a lot of you are not in
Canada.
It doesn’t matter.
That this place exists, it should exist in
other places.
I want you to share this video not only because
it’s amazing that it exists but that we can
show a proof of concept that services can
be given for free because people care.
And they care enough to donate money, they
care enough to donate time, they care enough
to talk about what’s happening and let other
people know that this exists.
So that the first reason I’m making this video.
So that if you are in the West Island and
you can donate time to the West Island Cancer
Wellness Center, please do that.
And, if you are in the West Island and you
can have services from this center, so basically
if you are suffering from cancer and need
some assistance, this place exists.
I really wish I would have known this place
existed when my grandmother and my aunt went
through cancer because maybe they could have
had some assistance faster.
Doesn’t matter if you are in Canada.
Share the video because if you share the video,
it’ll get back to somebody in Canada, that’s
first of all.
By sharing this video what you are going to
do is let other countries know that this kind
of system can actually work.
I feel like everything happens for a reason.
I was meant to go there and find out about
this so that I could share it with you and
you were meant to click on this video so you
could share it with others.
Because our ketogenic community, our wellness
warriors.
We’re gonna go out there and we are going
to help cancer patients by spreading this
message.
And that makes me feel really good because
my number one goal in life is to help as many
people as I possibly can.
And now maybe we help someone in Germany or
maybe we help someone in France because they
create a center like this where clients get
free services.
I really hope that you share the video.
I want to thank you for watching.
I appreciate it if you made it all the way
to the end.
And I can’t wait to talk to you in the next
video.
Have a good day.
