Energy-water-food: the resource consumption puzzle

Hi I’m Norbert Both. I’m VP Corporate
Communications at Shell and I’m here at TED Global in
Edinburgh having a really good time. I went to the main theatre this
morning and I heard speakers discuss the need for more
openness in this society, I witnessed somebody
describing the relationship between the human and the machine and we also devoted some attention to
the growing role of China in the world. And after that, we at Shell
hosted our own lunch discussion about the theme of energy, water, food and a really nice graphic summary
is right behind me. So we had in the room some
people representing all kinds of different types of organisations so NASA was at the table, entrepreneurs who had set up their
own biofuels company, we had people from India, from the
United States, from Europe, and it became a very rich discussion
and I think people felt it had been a good use of their time. What I’m looking most forward to in
the next few days is to learn more, to continue the dialogues that we
began today and yesterday evening and to run into those people again so that
we can finish these unfinished thoughts and see if we can design new
partnerships and ideas for the future and of course I’m also looking forward to
hearing some of these brilliant speakers speak in the next few days.
