if you go google biohacking now you’re
absolutely gonna get confused start
simple because there’s so many different
avenues just can expand out to I
encourage you to start simple and that’s
simply what’s gonna work for you like
we’re all bio unique right we’re all
like what works for me you’re gonna have
to tweak what works for a me you’re
gonna have to tweak that’s a fact
fine what works from you and work from
there
welcome to your appliance calm I’m your
host Amy Waterman so everybody knows as
you get older you put on weight right
and especially if you’re a woman because
your metabolism just slows down as you
approach menopause and your body changes
you’re never gonna have that lean body
ever again
you know it’s just how it is but is that
true
our guest for today Chris Colt he’s
tired of seeing people give up on their
health just because they’re getting
older he’s in the best shape of his life
at forty six and he feels better now
than he ever did in his 20s so what’s
the secret biohacking
you’re about to learn what biohacking is
how it can reverse aging and why some
biohacking practitioners think they can
live until a hundred and twenty our
guest Chris Colt is an endurance coach
for professionals who left behind a
lucrative corporate America sales job in
order to help others and make an impact
as an endurance athlete he recently
completed the iconic Leadville 100 the
way he’s been loving and living his life
with his family by his side Chris now
helps others find that one small way to
begin their journey towards freedom and
stability and biohacking
is a big part of that welcome Chris
thank you thank you very much Amy and
just so everybody knows this is when you
cross the finish line at Leadville 100
they give you a belt buckle so that’s my
belt what go home well that was well
learned it was one of the hardest bike
races I did in my life but I’m really
you know I love talking about biohacking
you know I’m 46 right now and I can tell
you if you looked at photos of me in my
20s and 30s this is not the same person
you saw and this is a trend I’m seeing
happening more and more as people age
the people that grasp what biohacking is
really optimizing their health they’re
looking younger as they age so that’s a
good problem to have, right? most people
want that problem they’re feeling
younger and that’s really what I want to
uncover here and make sure you all get
value out of that
well actually what I love about what you
said is that most times you know you’ve
got male biohackers wanting to live to
120 and you’ve got women wanting to look
20 and so maybe our goals are a bit
divergent so talk to us about how you
even
got into biohacking in the first place
you know yes so being an athlete right
so athletes have been doing it for years
right you know maybe the term biohacking
necessarily wasn’t a term used but we’ve
been doing it for years so you know we
shake things up on our water bottle it
fills us up with what we need to fuel
weight lifters used to do things and we
all do different things and you know
when you look at these Tour de France
riders we’re recording the string tour
in France
those guys are drinking things that are
biohacking their body to optimization to
get them to perform when they’re on that
bike and it’s also to get them to
recover right you need all those tools
so for me I always heard the term
biohacking you know one of the first
things I ever heard that I hear a lot of
people hate put butter in your coffee
and I was like that sounds disgusting
okay um but I could tell you it’s not
disgusting and what it does for you when
you mix it with coconut oil and I put a
little turmeric, a little cinnamon in
there and a drop of vanilla off it’s so
good but it boosts the brain immediately
so I start my day that way that was my
first introduction to it and it goes
back to 2015 so in 2015
actually let me go back to yeah 2015 in
July I did a 100-mile mountain bike race
I did the best I do this race every
single year I did the best I ever did at
it I took almost 57 minutes off my
previous year’s time however however I
weighed about thirty pounds more than I
do now so that sounds crazy because
there was about 13,000 feet of climbing
over 101 miles on this race and my body
cramped up so bad for the next seven
days in my life after that because I
gave it all I had and a lot of it was
the fuelling in my body what I was doing
a lot of sugar a lot of glucose a lot of
things to just spike your blood sugar
and close also see issues in the bikes
what I started doing right after that
races and I was getting older Rae our
body shift as we get older right your
metabolism shifts a lot of this stuff I
didn’t impact me younger but when I got
into that I started noticing shift early
40s in that race was my eye-opening
moment it was like whoa what’s going on
I’m not recovering so I started doing
some research sort of found Tamara
Tim Ferriss Dave Osprey dr. Dominic
D’Agostino and I was introduced to
something that was launching
to the market very very early it was
biohacking your body into the state of
ketosis I’m an athlete so I looked at it
I was skeptical no denying I sat there
biohacking into ketosis you don’t know
what keto is it’s talked about a lot
right now and there’s a reason for that
but that’s really I’m actually in deep
native ketosis now I just came off of 50
hour fast talk about that a little bit
more as we go through this but it puts
you into a state where your body’s
producing ketones which is optimization
for your body so I was like wait I can
biohack myself into ketosis if this is
legit I’m all in it was legit I started
you know using the product doing better
on my bike fast forward did the same
race a year later I was actually 32
pounds lighter than a year prior and
beat my time from that year by only
seven minutes it was a very hot day out
so that was that burn but still you
gotta understand when you’re doing these
morning bike races you take a minute off
that’s a huge accomplishment but here’s
the thing that happened during that race
I carry so much less with me from a
fueling option like I had like if I take
photos of the year before when I use for
fuel and when I use this year that year
it was a joke it was like 10%
I never cramp during a race my recovery
happened within two days never had that
happen so fast forward you know now it’s
done the lead bill 100 tons of other 100
mile mountain bike races educated a lot
of people on this I’m a huge fan of
biohacking huge fan and it’s not just
for athletes okay you know I work with a
lot of corporate executives and I want
people to get this across like these
busy people they always ask me Chris how
how can I perform like you but not on a
bicycle in real life you know I have
tons of testimonies in that but let me
ask some more questions we’ll keep on
going down that path okay so let’s just
back up and say so biohacking is hacking
your biology so that instead of falling
into the normal patterns of waiting as
you get older age-related degeneration
you’re actually implementing little
hacks to kind of kick you back to going
the other direction like younger right
yeah you know I describe it as you’re
basically taking your body’s
biochemistry and optimizing it that’s
the short consolidated version now
somebody’s probably on here
right now it’s like right yes you can go
down a path of biohacking that will take
you all different ways I look at it as
ways to improve your health there’s
multiple ways of doing that some of us
through your nutrition some annette’s
through supplementation some of that’s
through exercise some of that changing
things in your environment around you
there’s a ton of different ways to do
this but for me what we’ll probably talk
most about on here is more about
nutrition supplementation and yeah I’ll
get a little bit into exercise and some
other things you start to ask yeah so
the bulletproof coffee thing is probably
the most well known biohack of the you
know different things that the Dave
Asprey stuff that you put in your coffee
and the keto diet I think probably a lot
of people have heard about but what I
want to clarify here is that we’re not
talking about going on a diet to lose
weight what we’re talking about is
eating foods to shift your biology so
that you optimize your performance and
as a natural result you have more energy
as a natural result you lose weight but
your goal isn’t simply to get slimmer
it’s actually out of a better working
body you know that was something for me
so when I first started you know there
and there’s tons of supplementation all
sorts of different things you know don’t
I don’t want to make this a hundred
percent like keto or anything right
there’s tons of bio hacks my result is I
follow the program by a gentleman named
Mark Sisson siss oh and well known and
he has this book I went to grab it there
is a 21-day to adapt your body to fad
adaptation so I actually can get into
ketosis but I can still have carbs I
live in New York ones no I want pizza
okay but I can get back into ketosis but
it’s really getting your body to be in
that physical performance where you can
ship that on your own so you know I’ll
give you an example I have a good friend
he’s an executive of a very large
company travels all the time I mean all
the time and he’s a few years older than
me and he just was getting very tired he
was getting very tired his wife was
getting very tired she travels all the
time and he just started asking me some
simple questions and quite frankly my
bio hacks with him to start off with
where hey let’s up your your ordering
take let’s start there let’s put a lemon
in your water in the morning and then he
asked me one day right he’s on my
facebook and he saw me post something
about you know
Coffee I call it right because mine’s a
little bit different than what you
mentioned pulla proof coffee he’s like
why is your coffee foamy and I’m like
hey if you want to try something go get
some Kerrygold butter some coconut oil a
little bit of coconut milk put that in
here I put like I said I put turmeric, cinnamon in there, a drop of vanilla, and mix
that up and he’s like how much and I
kind of said start off with small little
half tablespoons of everything right
because there is a lot of calories in
that so it’s a meal don’t go having a
full meal after that to see you know but
he started doing that right and he did
that for a couple weeks and he started
drinking more I gave him energy and
Chris there’s a few things happening to
me right now
I’m doing presentations in the boardroom
and people are just like what’s going on
with your energy level and then he goes
I’m not eating the same kind of cruddy
foods I was I’m not craving the sugary
cookies in the boardroom so he started
having these natural shifts that I knew
would happen but you know sometimes it’s
just like nice to show somebody start
with this but he had these natural
natural shifts he lost I think there was
nine pounds in a 14 day window but like
he was performing better it worked he
was sleeping better people that were
noticing that so then we kept on working
along and fast forward you know he had a
little bit of extra weight on I mean he
needed to lose about 50 pounds and over
about a four-month window he lost that
it’s fast forward two years that’s off
him his wife bald a similar protocol she
was in her late 40s having lots of
shifts in her body and she didn’t you
know we’re all bio-unique. So she, from a nutrition perspective,
they both eat a little bit differently
but she did the same thing with the fat
coffee in the morning she’s already
increasing her water intake and started
getting rid of the sodas in her life
because of these changes and you know
she lost I think was 12 pounds in a two
month window and she was ecstatic but
she started performing better at work
sleeping better at night she was more
present for her family because these
changes that she was having trouble with
or getting shifted right and then she
started doing some other supplementation
she started exercising doing yoga it was
just it was amazing to watch that
transformation and everybody’s different
like if you’re listening to this and
like I tried that I get it there’s
always little tweaks you need to go
through along the way and you know as we
go through this I’ll try to just
give you more ideas of things I’ve seen
people tweet so what I really like about
that is because when most of us think
about okay we need to make a change in
our life we think I need to lose weight
and so what do we do we start eating
diet foods that don’t have a lot of
calories we’re hungry all the time we
crave the more foods we obsess about
food then something we don’t have energy
because we’re not eating enough and one
of the things that I love about what you
just talked about is you’re starting off
your day with fat which let’s be honest
a lot of us on a diet we don’t have that
you’re feeling full and you have energy
and when you feel full and have energy
you don’t need to eat as much so you
lose weight so it’s a completely
different way of thinking about it you
know it is and it’s funny like I dislike the word diet right because it’s
it’s like “die” is in there just think
about it – D – I – E, right? so I always say
lifestyle because we’re all different
like you know when people talk to me
about keto or feta adaptation I’m like
hey it’s a lifestyle you might be paleo
it’s a lifestyle you might be
Mediterranean right you’re gonna find
what works for your body through the
shifts but there are some very
consistent things I see that are helping
people you know I just mentioned I came
off a 50-hour fast now I have a whole
process that I do so if that’s something
that interests you I’ll guide you to a
process I did not just sit there and do
nothing for 50 hours okay there were
things that I was putting in my body to
help you through that but I came out of
that you know what they did for me or my
blood sugar levels they were control my
cravings were away I had you know my
body was in a position to fight disease
even more I had more human growth
hormone I mean my inflammation went away
when you start to do these fasting
things it’s unbelievable what happens
and I’ll tell you the brain focus goes
through the roof like you know I’m that
entrepreneurial type that will sit in
front of computer it’s what I’m gonna do
oh wait that looks good oh wait that
looks good and as I started making these
shifts I got so dialed and focused like
it takes my kids coming into which it
happens all the time you know get me oh
yeah let me do that but like you get so
dialed in focus and that like as you
make these hats you become more
productive and you actually are working
less with more efficiency so I want
people to realize when you get this in
tune a lot of good other things happen
that are more beneficial to you besides
your health. Health is great we all
want that, obviously.
so I want to talk about the hormone
piece though because one of the reasons
that we struggle so much as women we get
older is menopause completely and you
know paramount as it messes up our
hormone levels and doesn’t that kind of
overpower all the bio of hacking things
because hormones what can you do with
those yes that’s a whole so I weren’t
you know and I’m gonna give you some
different people I’ve worked with so if
you’re on here and you’re having some of
those hormonal issues you know there’s
some women that I know that are doctors
and some men that have really helped a
lot of people I’ve helped a lot of
people get them to a certain point but
you know it’s all about you gotta boost
that metabolism and change things and
you know just to start to shift with the
hormones you’ve gotta look what’s in
your environment okay first thing like a
lot of things like plastics they have
destructive chemicals that you’re
putting in your body you gotta be really
really careful with that stuff and
there’s ways to get that out there your
toothpaste your skincare all these
little things people don’t realize are
causing hormonal imbalances there’s a
lot of toxins in them and there’s a lot
of ways to get them a lot of companies
have toxic free products I mean I can
sit here and listings forever so we’re
not we’re not gonna do that but there’s
a ton of companies that have those kind
of things out there and there’s way to
pull these toxins out of your body so
like that’s one area that really helps
me form on my health
another area I’ve seen as we go through
this you know I work with a doctor up
around Toronto, Dr. Andra Campitelli, and I’ll send you her website
or I’ll give that to you to put on here
amazing person she helps women with gut
health hormonal imbalances autoimmune
diseases but it’s through biohacking
like you talk to her she’s like we’re
gonna do this we’re gonna do that but
one of the key things you really got no
and I got a lot of food is a major
answer to this to, still. I mean there’s
all these hacks but what you put in your
body like you got to start boosting your
fiber intake the healthy fats those nuts
the butter is the coconut these are good
for you the body fishes
make sure they’re caught from the ocean
right not farm-raised the good good fish
these natural foods helped a ton and I
don’t want it like I love
supplementation and love all these
things but you can do all that you’re
going to get
if you start to tweak everything else
that happens you get amazing results and
that’s you know what I did my wife did
you know my wife she’s had three boys
and you know I’ve by the third she was
having issues of this and weight and she
saw what I did biohacking it’s you know
she always thought it was for athletes
is an athlete thing blah blah blah blah
and then I was like hey you know drink
this right start drinking this this is
what’s helping me get to this level and
she started using stop and she’s like oh
my gosh this really works she lost her
baby fat really fast and you know that’s
any woman knows it’s another whole issue
that happens in you know we had our
third she was in her mid 30s so you know
you start it gets harder to lose that
weight actually she was in our later
thirties yeah so you actually work with
people so if somebody wants to work with
you personally you help people to
transform their health lifespan and
finances so talk to us just a little bit
about what you do yeah so you know just
be my backgrounds corporate America like
did a lot in corporate technology sales
and corporate sponsorship sales so long
business career and you know another
significant moment when I started to
make this shift in my body I’m like my
passion came out of me right you know I
was burnt out in corporate America
nothing bad to say about it you all
heard the stories we all have it but I
got to that critical point where I was
watching three boys were very fast and
no time to be with them you know was
always dead in that grind in this
passion as I started to shift and people
were just coming to me hey, how can I just do that so I was like
this and I was just giving out advice
left and right eventually it all clicked
ok it might as well just take the step
of faith so you know I started building
a side hustle that replace my income got
me out of corporate America so now what
I do is a few things I really help
people optimize their health biohack
their health I give them tons of
different advice tons of different tips
yes there’s supplementation involved
there’s different programs involved it’s
real simple and if it’s something I
can’t help you with I know some of the
best of the best out there so you know
there’s people that come to me I’m like
you know I’m not I can get you to a
certain point but you want to get to the
next level but dr. Andy will talk to her
dr. Russ gallo there’s all these
different individuals that ought to
point them to because I know their
specialty is more in
and I love doing that and what else also
has happened is I’ve seen such a trend
in this society you know people have
more month than money I mean I was there
I’ve lived it so I found ways to help
people also by doing what I do build
another income stream with it so it’s
just win-win it’s fun it’s a tax
write-off for people and I love doing it
now being away yesterday was my two-year
anniversary since being at a corporate
America you know you look back on that
you’re like man that one step of faith
as scary as it was it all worked out and
it’s it’s just I love talking to people
I love having interviews like this it’s
a lot more fun and you feel so fulfilled
when you go to bed at night and you get
that text from somebody that just they
had something they were going on like
like you know some type of medical issue
or weight loss or diabetes or and
they’re like thank you for letting me
know about this I’m off this kind of
pill off that kind of pill there’s
nothing more rewarding or when somebody
says to me I’m grateful because um you
know a lot of people stay in a job but
they build a side income stream like I
now have a path to pay for my kids
college education like there’s no more
rewarding feeling than being able to
help people with that kind of stuff and
for those of you watching if you want to
connect with Chris and learn a little
bit more about what he does maybe work
with him we have a link for you just go
to your Blanes that org slash Chris
that’s your boy org slash CH RIS thank
you Chris for coming onto the show and I
wondered if you had any less message
you’d like to leave our viewers with you
know I really think if you go Google
biohacking now you’re absolutely going
to get confused I’m gonna tell you like
you’re gonna go down a guy by the name
of Ben Greenfield, Dave Asprey,
Tim Ferriss, Mark Sisson … there’s so many
things you know start simple because
there’s so many different avenues just
can expand out to I encourage you so
simple and that’s simply what’s gonna
work for you like we’re all bio unique
right we’re all like what works for me
you’re gonna have to tweak what works
for a me you’re gonna have to tweak
that’s a fact
fine what works from you and work from
there and you know like Amy said if you
want more information she has my link up
there reach out to me it’s really simple
to find me let me know you found let me
know you found me on this interview and
I’ll be glad to help you and I really
appreciate this time and you know we
could talk about this for hours like
there’s so much more I can share like
that this is a good start
I’m sure how future interviews great
well thank you so much Chris and thank
you out there for watching we hope to
see you again soon until then let your
brilliant shine
you
you
