It is a glass is kind of day.
I don’t know what it is about Vegas, but the
allergies are crazy, and I can’t see, so I
have to wear them today.

Let me just pass this onto the Keto group
so that everybody knows that we are here.

Hello, now they’re coming in.
We are here today with Gene Burwood.
I am Lori Ballen, your Keto for weight loss
coach.
And I’m taking a very special group of volunteers
through the Keto coaching program.
We’re doing mostly a group coaching and then
some one on one in some small groups with
everybody.
So we started with 10.
There were nine of us because one fell out
quickly.
So Gene, welcome, I appreciate you.
Thank you.
So tell everybody why
you decided to take on Keto.
Long story, my weight
has been creeping up and creeping up and creeping
up and I think when you posted that.
I’ve kind of been trolling and staking you
and your success on the Keto program.
So when you opened it up for us and said,
hey, you’re looking for volunteers.
I said, hey, this is, this is the opportunity
to get in there.
Normally my success weight if you would want
to call it.
It’s usually around 195 pounds or so.
And I found myself on January 3rd or 4th sitting
around 257 to 258, which is very, very heavy.
So nonetheless.
I actually had to start a little bit late.
My kids didn’t go back to school until January
7th.
So, I started January 7th as well.
And here we are, 10-12 days then.
And what has been your
progress so far?
I know you posted in the group.
Tell everybody else.
Well, I hit the ground
running pretty good.
I’m pretty, pretty strict about it.
I try to be pretty strict about it.
I’m done about 11 pounds now.
I think it is.
No, sorry.
9.6 pounds, but it’s amazing.
Just from 9 pounds to almost 10 pounds, just
the weight stuff, it feels like a lot more
than 9 pounds.
The shirts are different, and as my wife says,
“Gene, you know, maybe you’re just re-positioning
it”.
I said, no, I’m definitely losing it, but
it’s funny how just like say10 pounds and
everything fits differently.
And partly that’s because
of the inflammation that’s going down too.
Are you measuring inches at all?
You know, I did it.
I’m going to do that tomorrow morning and
start going forward and making sure I measure
that on a weekly basis.
Yeah, because it does.
You’re right.
First of all, 10 pounds, it’s a lot of weight.
That’s a fantastic out of the gate, 9.6 just
under a pound a day.
So you would feel the difference in that.
What people don’t realize is how much your
swelling is reducing when you’re going, or
when you’re launching the Keto Diet.
So it will feel like a lot more than that,
and it will look like a lot more than that
in your clothes because you’re just not as
puffy.
You’re exactly right.
I did the before picture, and I uploaded to
my Fitness Pal.
I use a Fitness Pal Pro, but I also uploaded
to the website, and I guess it’s private or
not available for public consumption in the
group or on the Facebook group for the website.
We’re going to do that tomorrow morning, but
I was just kind of checking it out this morning,
and I was like, oh Geez, what are the difference?
And again, it’s energy.
It’s everything.
It’s crazy.
But I was telling somebody who reached out
on what I posted and asked me about the weight
loss and wow, it’s a good deal.
What’s your food log look like?
And so I, I said that and shared it with them.
I probably drink a couple of pickled juice,
just dill pickle juice a day, and I don’t
know if that’s sodium or what it is, but it
just keeps me going.
Yeah, that’s absolutely
sodium.
And I tell everybody, if you’re not feeling
good, you think you got the Keto flu, it is
almost always sodium and quick fix for that.
You’ve figured out its pickled juice.
I don’t drink the pickle juice straight so
much, but I keep a jar of dill pickles all
the time, and I just take a couple.
I’ll put them with whatever dinner or whatever
lunch.
So definitely sodium.
Now, are you taking any of the other electrolytes
supplement?
No, I’m not.
I think I was commenting that actually to
my daughter on the way back home.
That’s what I needed to start getting into.
Moving to the next phase or the next step
is getting those on the works.
So, I can consume now.
It should have been the
first step because you’re really setting yourself
up for us and suddenly that not feeling good
moment.
You have the three things you need, the sodium,
the magnesium, and the potassium and any of
those three things wind up truly lacking.
You’re going to be in for some hurts, different
symptoms.
The worst I ever experienced was Charlie horses
in the middle of the night.
And that comes from magnesium deficiency.
During the day, If you’re getting leg cramps
it’s potassium and during the night you’re
getting leg cramps, it’s generally magnesium.
So that will be going to catch you really
off guard real quick.
If you can get all of this stuffs through
your food if you’re really strategic about
it, but potassium’s the hardest one to get
through your foods naturally.
Unless you’re eating seven, eight, nine, ten
cups of spinach and avocados and all of your
green veggies, it’s going to be hard.
But for potassium, you can’t just take it
in pill form and
You get enough of it either.
I get my potassium and the wheatgrass juice
powder.
And that is something that I buy.
Oh, you know what, I take it back.
You can get the potassium in cream of tartar,
one teaspoon of cream of tartar will give
you your potassium for the day.
So if you want to include that in your foods
you can do that.
For magnesium, I take 4 Magnesium Glycinate
Pills at night.
I even give my daughter Magnesium gummies.
They have something called calm, C, A, L,
M and you can get that in gummies.
You can get that in a drink form, and those
are like in the regular grocery store, and
that has enough magnesium in it if you don’t
want to buy the fancy schmancy stuff.
And then sodium, I actually make sole water
and if you get a little glass jar, have you
heard of sole water is?
I saw one of your videos
where you were talking about it.
Yeah, that’s really inexpensive.
And the salt rocks came for like the longest
time.
So whatever, you can do a mason jar, but you
don’t want to have nettle and the salt coming
in contact with each other.
So if you’re going to use a lid, it’s better
to use something that’s not metal.
And then when you’re scooping out the water
into your cup.
You want to use like a plastic spoon, not
a metal one, but you can just put water in
a little jar with those pink salt rocks, closed
it up, it’s 24 hours later, you have sole
water, and then you just put the little spoon
each day into your drinking water.
And you’re going to have enough sodium.
You don’t have to get fancy with the product.
So you just need to make
sure you have something.
You also just salt your food.
Pink Himalayan salt or Celtic Sea salt, are
great.
But personally I never salt my food that much.
So it’s hard for me to get in 3500 milligrams
of sodium in my salted food.
So I’ve got to do it in the other forms.
So either make a shake with that stuff in
it or however it works.
But you do want to get on that because that
magnesium will catch you fast and you don’t
even realize it.
And then those late cramps are hard to get
rid of for days, and you have enough magnesium
in your body.
It’s the typical foods we eat on Keto just
are not high in those three things.
There’s nothing bad about the Diet.
We’re not starving ourselves or anything crazy.
But it’s the things that we take out of our
diet just aren’t super rich and those things.
Potassium, most Americans don’t get enough
to ask you.
Most Americans aren’t even in a thousand milligrams
of potassium, so I don’t go overboard worrying
about that one.
You can get that one and avocados and greens
and things like that, but salt and magnesium,
you really got to get it into your system.
What kind of foods are you eating?
Well, as luck would have
it.
As a startup, we purchased a black stone griddle.
So I’ve been doing a lot of chicken and veggies
and stake kind of Asian style on the griddle.
For breakfast, I’m having eggs, avocado, bacon.
And then, I find that it pushes me until two.
Usually, I have breakfast around seven in
the morning that pushes me until 2:00 in the
afternoon usually.
I have had like just a can of tuna fish with
some mayonnaise.
And then dinner is usually a steak or a chicken.
I did kind of modified a Keto crack slaw that
you had in the group.
It’s generally, just a steak or a chicken.
How did you modify the
crack slaw?
Honestly, it was generally
the same.
I may have left out some of the seasonings
or something.
I wasn’t sure if you got
the answer to it.
There are all kinds of versions of that.
Yeah, I know.
Some would do chicken
and bacon, and they don’t make it Asian flavor
at all.
There are all kinds of ways to do that.
I haven’t done anything
with the sweet, the fat bombs or anything
like that.
I really haven’t had a craving.
If I want something fatty, I’ll just eat a
quarter of a piece of avocado or something.
That’s the thing people
don’t realize about Keto.
As soon as you start eating it, once you get
to three, four days under your belt, the cravings
are gone.
You don’t crave the sugar; you don’t crave
the carbs.
So, unless you’re around it, like somebody
is baking chocolate chip cookies.
I definitely want to eat them.
And seeing the progress
so quickly.
To me at least its self-fulfilling that you’re
going to continue to do well or and not cheat
because, like, wow, I’m down another pound
or what have you.
It’d be easy for me to have those french fries.
Like yesterday morning, I cooked breakfast
on that griddle and did some hash browns for
my daughters, they went over there, and my
stuff was over here, so it was well.
I remember at the beginning
for me it was hard to cook for my teenager
and cook for myself.
And now I made her a great big bowl of spaghetti.
She wouldn’t even let me make her gluten-free.
It has to be the real penne pasta and meatballs
and spaghetti sauce, and I had zero desire
to eat of that myself.
But at the beginning, for me, it was a little
bit more challenging if I was cooking certain
things like french fries and tater tots and
those kinds of things were a little bit harder.
You used to snack it up.
But now I would tell myself, don’t even take
one because if you take one, you’re going
to want the whole plate.
And I just dish it up and get it out of there
as fast as I can.
And I make sure that I’m not hungry when I’m
cooking for her.
So a lot of times I’ll make my steak and asparagus
or crack slaw or something an hour before
I make her food.
And then I don’t want her food, you know.
So have you ever run into that.
Well, one thing when
you were asking what’s going on in your world
or whatever.
I drink diet coke, or I used to drink diet
coke by the two-liter bottles a day.
From the start of January 7th on until probably
about four days ago, it was water, water,
water, water, water, and then it was unsweet
iced tea with Stevia.
And I found over the past couple of days I’ll
have a diet coke because there’s no nutritional
value or no carbs or anything like that.
I will probably.
Hopefully, it’s just coincidental, but I’ve
noticed that I’ve slowed down and I started
to feel a little bit more lethargic.
So my goal over the next week is to keep trying
to flush that stuff out of my system because
it truly is.
I believe it’s just as addictive as cigarettes
and you know, and everything else.
Yeah.
And you know, the thing with diet coke is
that it definitely fits in your macros.
That’s not the challenge.
It doesn’t have anything in there that’s going
to conflict with your macros, but it’s full
of garbage.
It’s still full of garbage.
And when you’re cleaning your body, you’re
healing your body and don’t want to put those
toxins and stuff into your body.
Got Keto is not just about weight loss.
That’s what people don’t understand.
Keto is about healing your body.
You are changing the makeup from the inside
out, and when you’re in that zone, and then
you put something toxic in your body that
causes your body to react in other ways, it’s
going to not to feel good.
You’re going to see the difference when that
happens.
I still to this day, I can tell 100 percent
when I eat something I shouldn’t have, I’m
immediately tired.
I get that.
And I just want to sit down.
When I’m on the strict Keto, it’s like zooming.
Everything’s fantastic.
So it’s not worth weighing it down.
Sometimes I’ll even make like something as
supposed to be Keto shake or Keto protein
or something.
I’ll eat it, and I won’t feel good at all.
No added sugars or something in that product
that I shouldn’t be eating because I can feel
it.
So let me ask you about
that.
I don’t know if they have it out there, but
we have smoothie kings out here, They’re
“healthy,” and I was checking out.
(Long story short was when I was going to
pick one daughter, a friend of my daughter.)
They’re like one carb for 20 ounces, one and
a half for 32 ounces.
Sugar is low.
I’m just wondering on that regard, is that
a kind of like a path to the wrong place?
Do you know what I mean?
I would be really curious
to see a nutritional menu for it.
Having a smoothie.
That’s one carb.
There’s no fruit in that then because your
fruits are all high in carbs.
So I don’t know what you could be eating that
only has one carb in a smoothie.
It’s 20 ounces.
I’ll send you what I found.
Yeah, because fruits are
a no-go on Keto.
A little bit of berries, but an apple is going
to shoot you out of your net carbs: orange
juice or an orange or any of that.
So it was going to shoot you out of your net
carbs.
So this would have to be a green veggie smoothie
with maybe some flavor additives or something.
So definitely send it to me.
I don’t want to say no, but I can tell you
that in general, we avoid smoothies unfortunately
because they’re typically are full of fruit
and sugar.
I’m not one of those people that’s ever over
worried about being too perfect Keto.
But I do worry about the bad habits of eating
a thing but wouldn’t be Keto friendly.
Then it’s harder for your body to heal and
harder for it to fight that inflammation and,
and whatnot.
So the better you can
go, the better.
But I’m not going to scream and yell at you
if you’re if you’re drinking diet coke and
it fits in your macros, but just know that
you’re working against yourself.
Agree.
Send me that menu of the
smoothies so I can give an opinion on that.
Definitely get your sodium, your magnesium,
and your potassium going.
So that doesn’t catch you off guard.
Is there anything else?
Do you have any other questions or anything
now that you’re 10, 11 days in?
I’ve noticed that and
I do step on the scale every morning.
It’s just what I do.
I’ve noticed over the past couple three days,
and it’s kind of just, it’s really slowed
down.
I don’t know if I’d tried to internalize that
and make that a more of a let’s get more rigid
on the program.
Again, my numbers are great, and I’m reporting
everything, and I’m a logging everything.
It’s just; I don’t know if it’s a cycle of
you’ve been on it for two weeks.
That’s why you can’t get
on the scale every day because it’s only been
one week and you’ve lost nine and a half pounds.
What possibly could there be to say it’s not
working.
That’s true.
Or it’s slowing down.
That’s why I can’t get it through you guys
enough that you can’t do that.
It’s a week at a time because you’re going
to have every single day your body goes up
and down by up to five pounds.
Now if you lost five pounds one week and five
pounds the next week and you lost no weight
the third week I’d be concerned, I’d say let’s
look at what you got going on there.
But right now you’re only at one week.
There’s nothing to compare to.
Everything about weight loss is in your head.
It’s so much more in your head than anything
else that we tend to sabotage ourselves.
We tend to tell ourselves
it’s not working.
When I was at this point, I had lost seven
and my first two weeks, and then I wound up
losing 20 by the end of the month, which was
insane.
And then it slowed down a little bit.
Then I gained a couple of pounds, then I lost
some weight and then you know, but slow and
steady.
I mean it really wasn’t that slow.
I lost 40 pounds in four months and then 50
and six months.
But it won’t be two to three pounds every
day.
It should be two pounds a week.
It’s super healthy.
Right now, what you’re seeing is water weight.
Your body is flushing itself out; you’re losing
a ton of water weight.
Now it should start to balance a little bit
more where it might be two, three, four.
You might even lose five pounds in a week
if you got it to lose.
Do that.
But that shouldn’t be your expectation of
losing a pound a day.
So give yourself some room to take this journey
as long as it takes to get there.
What’s your total?
How many pounds total are you working to lose?
It would be right at 60 pounds.
So, 250, 257, 258 now down to 200.
Okay…
So…
Yeah, you could definitely
do that in a few months but not a few weeks.
True.
I will never ever address
slowing down other than week by week just
so that you know that.
So if we look at one week and then we looked
at another week, and there’s a difference,
and then we talk about it for sure.
But right now all you should be worrying about
is the net 20.
You want to be worried about the calories
you can if you feel comfortable with the next
one and you want to focus on your calorie
restriction as well.
You’re certainly able to do that.
Part of this is just your body has to heal.
Your body has to even out, so it’s going have
some water, a lot of water rate fluctuation
while it’s getting you in the zone and you’re
not even really burning fat at a high level
yet, but you’re close.
You got to go through
that adaptation phase, and you’re going to
see it.
Your energy is going to get higher, and it’s
going to higher.
It’s going to be higher, you’re going to feel
better, and you’re going to know like you
are.
You’re in the fat burning zone, so you’re
doing everything right.
Just keep going.
Don’t worry about it.
Don’t even tell yourself or second that there’s
something not working, because it’s clearly
working.
You’re doing great, and then next week when
you weigh in, if there’s anything negative,
we’ll talk about it then, but I don’t think
there will be.

How can you put, it says choose two fruits

Watch this because how many carbs are in an
apple?
Let’s just say you were to choose apple.
25 carbs in an apple.
So, I’m not even.
I have no idea how they could possibly claim
that.
(Gene is referring to
a smoothie king smoothie that claims to be
as low as 1 net carb – it is not recommended
to have smoothie king on Keto based on these
findings)
So no fruits.
Right!
So if you order a strawberry and you can call
it a day.
Yeah.
But okay.
So maybe how many carbs are in a strawberry?
Let’s see what the max you could have is.
Cause strawberry would be a berry.
You can get that much lower.
Yeah.
A strawberry is going to have like one carb
per strawberry.
But still, how could you have one carb if
you have a strawberry?
Right
You’d be at one carb.
So maybe it’s protein powder and one carb.
But there’s carbs and protein powder.
This is why it’s so scary to eat at other
places because you’re trusting what they’re
saying.
But once you understand Keto, you’re going
to know that that’s impossible.
It’s impossible to add fruit to that smoothie
and not have carbs.
So I don’t know, If I were you, I would ask
them straight out like “Hey, I’m looking at
this recipe and I’m looking at this smoothie,
what needs to go in there for it to be one
carb?”
And then see what they say.
Well, there are 17-year-olds
working there, so how would they know.
Call corporate, somebody’s
got to know.
True
Sabrina said that puts
it at 39 carbs if there are two fruits.
That’s so funny.
Yeah, I don’t know.
So be careful.
You’re going gain weight real quick drinking
smoothie king I think.
For sure.
