What are you actually going to be doing at the party? Is it going to be planned out with games and activities? Is it going to involve a sit-down meal? Is it being held at a restaurant or in your backyard? The event might be on the formal side, or it might be completely casual and relaxed. Make sure your guests know what to expect! This will help them make decisions about their own behaviour: what they wear, how strictly they adhere to the start time, perhaps even whether they come at all.
This is a special occasion for the mom-to-be and her guest list is full of loved ones. Send invitations out early in order to account for guests who may be traveling to attend the baby shower. Don’t forget to have the mom-to-be register for gifts at the end of month four or start of month five so you can include baby gift registry information on the invitation.
Invitations are sent out three weeks before the shower. Store-bought fill-ins come in a wide variety of designs and are widely available, as are invitations that can be designed online or on your computer. However creative your invitation, don’t forget the essentials: the mother’s (or parents’) names(s), the shower’s date, time and location, and a request to RSVP. Gift information is never listed on the invitation itself, but it’s fine to mention “The nursery is blue and green,” or, “Jenna’s expecting a girl.” The host should be prepared to give gift suggestions, and nowadays it’s acceptable to include baby registry information on a separate enclosure.
